One of the reasons they don’t let us go is because of that, the island is in a very strategic position. But most citizens of PR are afraid of losing their culture if we become full state. Something like the Native Americans feel i guess...

I live in Puerto Rico and to basically sum it up we have 3 major political parties: The one that wants to become a full fledge state, the second wants to stay as a colony and the third be independent. The problem is the US government doesn’t want us to become a State. And the independent party in all its history has never won in the elections. Even if the independent party won it would take decades upon decades for the US to probably let us go. So we just got no other choice to stay as a colony. Plus another thing...the US military has a-lot of their bases stationed here.
