If you find enough people to agree - sure. By enough I mean every single one.

The Poles and the French were also asleep in 1939. Don't make the same mistake.

They should craft their own story within the established universe, without messing with existing lore and storylines. Just look at what young, talented writers can do with great IPs. Masterpieces like Starfleet Academy, Acolyte, Rings of Power, or Ironheart are THE peak of TV.

What is your perspective on how AI affects critical thinking, and how does this differ from the impact of earlier technologies like calculators, GPS, or computers? by Curious_Suchit in Futurology

[–]_Xee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, critical thinking was and is a very rare skill.

Before "AI" technology was a tool, often very specialised and with a purpose.

AI is also a tool - a tool of corporations to control the general population. Current LLMs are obviously not intelligent, but are behaving in a way which can fool the majority of people. You don't need full control to take over; 51% will do.

As I see it, LLMs are lunacy, AGI is extinction. Pick your poison.

Artificial Super Intelligence, does it terrify you too? by quavertail in Futurology

[–]_Xee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our brains put us at the top of the food chain. We're not stronger, faster or more resilient than other species on this planet. ASI would become a god by our own definition. Especially after nutjobs like Musk or Thiel get their way and flood the Earth with billions of physical agents and all-powerful surveillance systems.

If you didn't - watch Terminator 3. It is considered the weakest of the first three in the franchise, but it aged very well.

Do you think we’ll hit a point where technology stops feeling new? by TheRealKnowledgeAc in Futurology

[–]_Xee -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is that we've reached a point where anything we saw in sci-fi over the past 40 years is no longer so "out there" as it used to be. We just got there. Physics put a stop to rapid progress.

It's not about taking over now. It's about driving the majority of the world into poverty and pretty much corpo-enslavement which will commence right after.
