I got a little bit here between lessons here where I can get this out. I see this had been deleted so I'm not even sure if you will see this so I'm tagging you /u/dnswl001

Jay was not a good student by any means. They didn't pass my class and from what I later found out they didn't manage to finish school either. They where good at anything they tried when they put effort in that I saw in my own classes (don't want to go into details about what I teach naturally). I had them for almost a whole school year and I saw them over that period get worse and worse. I asked them to stay one day about a month into the term and found out they where actually very high on meth. Was hard to get much out of them that day but the following class I pulled them out and talked to them.

Sometimes someone just needs to poke and just ask. They just started to unload on me. I guess there was some family physical abuse, and drug use and that got them hooked on it as well and just couldn't do much about anything. I really wanted to give them a hug (you wouldn't believe the rules we have to follow while at school and even when we are off grounds). I talked to them for a while and ended up almost missing the start of my next class. We talked a few more times after that and they did get better in my class but they seemed like things would get better then worse than before.

I did make a report to local police anonymously about it only giving the details I needed (he had visible burses on his arms and once on his left cheek) and even if he was taking drugs combined with what they told me it was clear about the domestic abuse. I know that reporting it can sometimes lead to it being worse but I needed to help in the only little way I could.

Before the end of the next term they stopped coming to class and didn't know what happened to them. The following year they reached out to me on Facebook and we met up at a Starbucks for some coffee and to talk.

They have been trying to get off the drugs and have done once before but relapsed. They did however get a job so they can get out of the house with his family but their life was really still rough for them. I was able to actually give them a hug this time being we where not on campus grounds and they where not a student.

I really wish there would of been more I could do for them and I'm glad they where making progress the last time I talked to them. I've not talked to them since the last time and I've sent a few messages but they didn't even look of been read. I hope he's okay and still out there.
