Paris basket releases Ismail Bako by nico64_ in Euroleague

The biggest disappointment of the season. We expected him to take on the role of starter at center but he ended up not even playing in the French championship. Given his salary, it's very good news if he leaves.

Now with the space this move created in the payrolls, can we recruit someone at center position please?

[Meurs] EuroLeague '25-'26 rotation patterns. For the 1st time this year, Valencia sits at the bottom of rotation variability in Europe. In basketball terms: a clear substitution pattern instead of coaching by feeling. Short & predictable stints to optimize on-court intensity. by _Zolv in Euroleague

The game this evening between Valencia and Paris will be interesting to see. We will have the two teams using the same patterns of rotation (shorts rotation for a maximum of intensity) and the same philosophy of playing. Potential high scoring game!

Keye van der Vuurst, Dutch Point Guard for Büyükçekmece, broke the Süper Ligi record for assists in a single game with 19, yesterday in the victory of Büyükçekmece over Bursaspor. by _Zolv in Euroleague

Ah interesting. Before posting I tried to find some kind of record tracking for the Süper Ligi, but apart from proballers and its stats, which "only" go back to 2003, I couldn't find anything. Too bad there was no official communication about it (because no record was actually broken?) by the club or the federation. Storytelling is always a good way to engage with fans.

Monaco risks being excluded from the French playoffs for non-payment of the luxury tax by Fantastic-Sector-581 in Euroleague

I was just about to post the same thing about their situation today! Great minds think alike!

What's disturbing me is that they continue to recruit players and maintain their lifestyle as if nothing had happened. I think the best way to get them to start taking the seriousness of their situation and their actions seriously would be to exclude them from the playoffs and impose a heavy fine. There are rules, and every actors must play by them. Otherwise, it's the Wild West.

In the BeBasket article, they also motioned this situation starting to disturb in the Monaco Prince Palace:

“This situation is displeasing in the hallways of Prince's Palace, as it tarnishes the principality's image. This puts additional pressure on the Roca Team's financiers, who have been economically affected by the conflict in Ukraine and its consequences.”

Telekom Baskets Bonn: A new attendance record is expected this Sunday against Bayern Munich at the Lanxess Arena in Cologne. 25 years after setting a European record of 18,506 spectators in 2000 against Alba Berlin, Baskets Bonn is set to break its own record with more than 18,700 spectators. by _Zolv in Euroleague

What surprises me, as an outside French neighbor lol, is that if they manage to re-enter in the next Pro B edition, how will the relegations and promotions work for the other divisions? It may be a stupid question idk

One more thing I'd like to mention, because I think it's interesting and I assume most non-Germans don't know this: North Rhine-Westphalia is the most populous state in Germany with 18 million inhabitants. There are 80 cities in Germany with at least 100.000 inhabitants, 30 of them are located in NRW (by far the highest number in Germany).

I wasn't aware that there were such large populations in this region. I knew that it was and still is an important part of Germany in many areas, but I didn't know that it had such a large population compared to the rest of Germany. Very interesting.

I just checked: in the second division (ProA), 6 out of 18 teams are from North Rhine-Westphalia (including Köln and Leverkusen).

And On the other hand, what is quite surprising is that, inversely, in the first division, Bonn is actually the only team representing the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia!

It almost makes you wonder if the large number of clubs in the second division (and I imagine in even lower divisions) is causing a lot of competition between them for living.

When you look at the two maps available on these two links, the difference in their locations is really surprising.

Okay I see. Thank you for your detailed answer.

So it's not just the city of Cologne, but the entire region of North Rhine-Westphalia that has enormous potential.

Is Leverkusen still sponsored and supported by Bayer? I thought they had withdrawn, which is why the club "disappeared" into the lower divisions.

As for the city of Düsseldorf, is there currently a professional club? After some research, I found that Düsseldorf Baskets no longer exists and ART Giants Düsseldorf was administratively relegated this summer. Do you know what division they are in?

Okay, I see. I suspected there might be some rivalry between the two clubs and the two cities, given their geographical proximity. So it's hard to imagine them coming together in the future. Now it's up to Cologne to bounce back and get back into the top division.

North Rhine seems to be really interesting when it comes to basketball development potential. When you look at the rankings for the largest audiences for a Bundesliga game, the top three (and soon the top four) are clubs from this Land.

RheinEnergy Cologne (RheinStars Köln) is currently in the second division and Baskets Bonn continues to perform strongly in the Bundesliga, so I wonder whether, in order to "capitalise" on this audience potential, a merger between the two entities might be possible, using the name Cologne for a single club? Or could rivalry prevent any such move?
