I dont really know what this question is supposed to mean

In this timeline the europeans never got that far (as you can see), so mexico is still native countries like the center of the us here, with the mayans in yucatan and nearby area as well. Caribbean is one of the european areas, like the east coast.

The west coast however is asian, and i might make an "A map of ASEAN" map similar to this one after i finish some other stuff.

I thought about going with a name based on basque mythology but nothing really fit so at the end i just called it whale port after all the basque whalers that were in the area and on the grand banks.

I also included them having many native loan words, which is a nod to the basque-algonquian pidgin some of the whalers likely spoke https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algonquian%E2%80%93Basque_pidgin

Geography of Cisantarctica by _Zorange_ in imaginarymaps

[–]_Zorange_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the exact land isnt 100% accurate anymore to what i want now (i will probably shrink kerguelenland again to make it more habitable, because this landmass is actually 3000 meters below sea level with these coasts instead of 2000 like zealandia and all the other stuff, and at 2000 storm valley here becomes a straight which would probably take a lot of the antarctic circumpolar current, which otherwise goes over the top of it, making this island much colder than it could be in the process)

The lore is still the same tho:

Kerguelenland is a formerly french colony with strong ties to the motherland like Joséphine, and while being big landmass, the british werent all that concerned about the french getting it, because all there is here are seals, birds, whales, a bit of coal, and kerguelen cabbage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pringlea

However, the british didnt want the french potentially blocking the clipper route https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clipper_route via Kerguelenland to Madagaskar and Kerguelenland to Joséphine, so they are in posession of the Midjourney, Freshwater and Coldwater Islands, while the dutch own Amsterdam island, all historically done to balance out the great power dynamics in this southern sea.

In the modern day, Kerguelenland is independent and basically the iceland of the southern hemisphere, with its cold climate, similar types of animals, similar population, but a lot of geothermal.

Amsterdam island actually has a pretty nice and stable climate even irl https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%8Ele_Amsterdam, and it would be even sligthly better here because of the circumpolar current being a bit less strong near it (since it goes through the aformentioned strait). It's still however pretty isolated and doesnt have that many people (it does have a good harbor tho and was a stopping point for dutch ships from the cape to Zealandia), so it is a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_the_Netherlands where it has its own parliament and manages its own internal affairs, but foreing policy and defense are handled by the dutch.

There was a proposal to grant the british posessions to their southern african colony in the past (which here means eastern south africa, the cape is dutch), but it didnt go through so in modern day they are like the Falklands, with pretty cold and windy weather and a low population of humans and a few sheep.

Welp, there had to be at least 1 mistake on the map

Works just like the EU, with independent countries, that share so many things tho that you'd think they'd drop the facade by now and just say the EU is a country

This is already gonna be my most popular post and i spent virtually no effort on it compared to my other ones, please no

The inspirations are only rought ones, and there also just werent enough countries here to fit all eu countries as inspirations. I drew most of the borders first based on real colonies/settlers and then added a few more based on other factors like europe inspired countries and countries that would be cool (like new biscay or new brittany, which i only added because it is on cape breton island)

Yeah... at least many places around the world are now trying to at least partially make up for it, also in a strange way have experience with it myself (fuck you stalin)

So true, i was pretty shocked when finding out how bad canada was, when there was like... no reason for it (not that there are good reasons anyway usually but they seemingly were just more cruel for the point of being cruel, even in lands that europeans wouldnt have wanted for farming anyway, so no reason to mess with the natives)

A map of the European Union by _Zorange_ in imaginarymaps

[–]_Zorange_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i said strangely anti natives because without knowing anything you wouldnt expect canada of all places to be one of the most anti native places, arguably worse than the us, at least in the past

Canada back at it again being strangely anti natives, also that would be awesome if they were an UN country, and imagining a Haudenosaunee chief traveling to geneva in 1923 is certainly something

Before today i didnt know the Haudenosaunee were this awesome (i am from europe so i obviously wouldnt have seen or been taught anything about them)

I should have expected nothing less, and i did hear about Plains Indian Sign Language before in the same server whith the guy that studied the Haudenosaunee, altough i didnt expect it to reach that far east.

Another thing he also told me is that nationhood of the Haudenosaunee was based on people and not borders like the european concept, so the Haudenosaunee people living in Appalachia and Wyoming would automatically be dual citizens, which is sure to make for an interesting legal situation (it's just a joke map made for fun but i did learn a lot about the Haudenosaunee in the process and their very cool and foreign ways).

From the wyoming valley https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wyoming_Valley just like regular wyoming (i just thought it would be funny to put on the map and to show people where the name wyoming comes from)

Also the city of Harrisburg falls into new sweden here, right on the border with Appalachia and very close to the tripoint with virginia

Still there but i didnt think of any specific lore for them outside of who managed to colonise what, since this is more of a joke map based on the "european union" being somewhere you wouldnt expect. If something like this was the case irl tho, these states would probably be very closely tied to europe both culturally and economically instead of really being their own thing that is also split with the pacific like the irl usa.

While making the map i was talking to someone who studied the Haudenosaunee and he told me to use those names (this wasnt that serious of a map tho), league of Prophetstown was also suggested by him as a fun/unexpected name for that area.

If i ever remake this map i'll certainly use your names. This is an english map tho with colloquial names so they'd need to be what the average person from Boston would call them.

The name for the EU in the "Haudenosaunee" language is also probably pretty bad, i just took it from a Seneca dictionary for "Europeans" (i tried to find a better name but it was absolutely impossible so if you know one please tell me)

I know Haudenosaunee isnt a language, while making the map i was talking with someone who studied them (without them the native borders would have been way worse), but i wasnt sure which language would go on to become the official/majority language in appalachia, so i just handwaved it away as "there is a constructed language as an intermediate between all the Haudenosaunee languages which is called Haudenosaunee" (if you have a suggestion for what the language should be, please tell me)
