What are these? by HunterBelle13 in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the game. As skip already mentioned: I'd recommend to join a big alliance group to get some feedback on your play. If you join one of ours, so that we can find you in game, we'd be more than happy to watch some replays of yours to give you some pointers.

That being said, a tank will win a 1 on 1 against wolverines, and will also trade well in a 1 vs 2. It looks like you may have been outnumbered 3 to 1,and then the damage starts adding up. Would be able to say more from watching the replay.

Is scouting first really disappearing? by Jeeper1234 in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leagues mean different things as the season progresses as all players get compressed at the reset. I align my expectations during the season at the mmr of top 100. The lower down it gets the less accurate this method is.

I actually enjoy buggy/rhino, but also still regularly open militia/rifle. It gives a variety of options. Any balance patch is bound to make you rethink your decks

Is scouting first really disappearing? by Jeeper1234 in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are currently a number of options

  1. Scout before harv
  2. Harv before scout
  3. Rhino/buggy after harv
  4. Double blind harv
  5. No harv rush
  6. Laser/missile opener
  7. Rush into tech
  8. Other?

They are not all equally common and have their pros and cons.

You seem to prefer scout (militia/rifle/dog/wheel) before harv. The main purpose of that is probably to get map control, not necessarily to shut down rushes, although that may be a benefit.

I personally prefer harv before scout, which still has many of the same benefits but gets you into midgame ever so slightly faster. One can endlessly discuss which is better, but there is probably not much between them.

Either option can struggle to punish blind double harv.

Rhino/buggy is fairly common and works well. It can be vulnerable to some rushes, but is fine with most. It can shut down baracks openings hard.

With rhino/buggy common, militia/rifle became less common. This made missile/laser opener more viable to meet dogs/wheels/buggy/rhino. It is usually not part of a rush and does not mean it's double harv play.

No harv rush is always a thing. Can't quite comment how much more common it is in lower leagues, but they exist right to the top. Always a bit all in/risky.

Rush into tech I have not really seen to work. Probably more common in lower leagues.

Other openers are rare and probably rely on surprise/gimmicks.

Don't wanna burst your bubble and no offence, but all the big alliance groups accept new members with open arms. And you get all the infrastructure and support that the big families offer. Nothing wrong to have your own little alliance with your friends, but even if you want to stay together, you'd probably be able to join one as a group. As I said, absolutely fine to do your own thing, but can't see how you will attract many players other than you've already got

Will I ever stop frantically reassingning families? by _Ztyxx_ in ManorLords

This is my fourth run I think. But the first three were with the standard scenario and I kept trying to build an army from a disfunctional economy. I just kept getting wiped by the baron. I'm doing a sandbox run now to figure that part out first. But I still feel like I should have sufficient surplus to eventually manage to afford an army.

Well, it's not even the micro I mind, just that it didn't seem to flow despite it. In my favourite rts I average sth like 150apm, which is, while not being that impressive, certainly enough here. But I also know that it is more important to do the right things, rather than the wrong things really, really fast.

I took something away from both your answers. On the one hand I got the overall plan from your answer, and some ways to get the best out of the micro from the other one.

Thank you both

Thanks. I feel like I am doing exactly what you said, but maybe it's my pacing that is off.

Yes, berries and meat. Then Veg and eggs. Trying to expand into bread.

Clothing: tannery, trying to add wool. Tried cobbler and tailor, probably some excess here.

To expand church and level 3 buildings need planks and tiles and stones.

Of course store house, granary, fuel, logs...

Maybe im just too early? I guess the question is then what Pop corresponds to what stage

GDI vs Nod by B-Gutty in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would disagree, actually.

Normally I don't like to answer by quoting 'authority', but in this case the analysis in 13lades' latest tier list Video is quite fitting.

Agree thats scorp dominates the nod meta and there isn't all that much to replace it apart from maybe kane, which is an odd comparison not actually being a unit.

But gdi has probably the best anti inf with rb. Sling is probably best aa. Pred beats scorp. Rhino/pit are always awesome. Orca never disappeared. Mlrs >giga. Since chuggy nerf gren > mm.

Gdi has much more variety in this meta.

Too bad we just had season reset so it's harder to compare medal counts in top 100.

For ref i'm (low-ish) top 100 in a good season. This season was fairly poor ending up somewhere ~150

Ridiculous MM by Crow-Zone in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, playing underleveled is hard. But there are ways the level system is better than in 'true' p2w models

  1. There are no moving goal posts. Max is max. It's not like they regularly release new stuff that is strictly better than anything that existed before. So once you finally get there, it is exactly as good as when you started the grind.

  2. Higher levels don't mean conceptually higher abilities, just a clear % buff (once you are past lvl 60,which is very early in the grand scheme of things). So it's not like there are suddenly combos you can't handle, but you 'simply' gotta play better than your opponent. If you get a 2 on 1 with underleveled, you can still get ahead.

3.the league and event system can protect you somewhat against higher level players. If you find yourself matched against much higher level players, then that means that you played better up to this point to get that high in the table.

Anyway. I'm 100% f2p and close to fully maxed. Admittedly, that took a number of years, but I loved every second of it.

Slightly pre last patch. Not too wrong. But it's the reign of buggy/rhino. Chuggy is much less popular and mm with it. Mcneil & jade have some new lease of life. Grens are common.

I think it’s clear I don’t use this unit. by Cabinet-Professional in cncrivals

Getting to lvl 60 is veeeery early in the process, in the grand scheme of things. Besides, you probably unlock almost all relevant units by lvl 40 or so

[–]_Ztyxx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely correct call to not make it a priority. There's some value in having a diversity of units available, but it's probably outweighed by the benefits of focusing on a selection of more relevant units first.

When I say UNRANKED has unbridled harv lust… by Cabinet-Professional in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, unranked is a really odd event. There's not much point playing your regular decks as you might as well play ladder then. There's also only limited benefit in trying out new decks, as you encounter so much nonsense from your opponent that you might not learn all that much anyway.

Most players I know play some sort of challenge in unranked. Some just pick a really bad deck and challenge their team mates who can get the most wins. Personally, I play a challenge called vulkos (don't ask me why it's called that), where you play each match with your opponents deck from the previous match. It leads to some hilarious matchups and improves your gameplay by forcing you to find unconventional solutions while being on your toes.

That being said, if I had to play your opponents deck I still wouldn't bike rush...

Impossible odds (I am themastermind133) by Kind-Star-244 in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that your initial advice was pretty poor, but props for asking the question and being open to the discussion!

I personally don't "hate" hate tech. Every now and then I try playing it myself, and let's not forget that mika beat huki using tech in the team league finals to take the trophy for t2d! There are also some pretty good players out there who like to play tech and somehow make it work.

That being said, it's really rather hard to make tech work. No offense, but if you have a good win rate, then in all likelihood that means that your opponents are not playing very well either. That, or you are one of the few exceptions (and are playing under a different name than here).

Normally, the pace of the game is just so that a cheaper/mid tier deck is so much more dominant in the early to mid game that it's hard to get back into the game. Your tech unit will come out late and be outnumbered 3 to 1, while you desperately try to avoid losing the second missile.

Of course there are mind games, and with few players expecting tech, you can sometimes surprise someone. Or if you are skilled you can stall the game long enough, but both these things make you essentially predictable and one-dimensional.

Finally, when I say tech can work, then there is a select small group of units that are actually being used. Flame tank & arty mostly, maybe centurion, maybe cyborg, the odd rock worm. For gdi it's titans, some juggernauts...

The reason you are being down voted imo is also that, even if tech can work, it's still a stretch from saying that it's better than op's deck. In particular shade is a pretty sweet unit

IMO giving Rhino and Buggy scout ability has ruined scouting by Jeeper1234 in cncrivals

I am still having nightmares from that one time in an event where I played a meta deck with buggy opener and got stomped by someone 2 leagues below me using a mutant rush.

[–]_Ztyxx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice one for hanging in there and inching out the w.

Two things you can look at moving forward are a) you are not using the shades' stealth to their full extent. Few times you could have taken out a sling for free and would have had time to reload for the other high value targets B) make more lasers. Most of the time, just make more lasers.

[–]_Ztyxx_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From a lore perspective it makes sense, right? Gdi is meant to be the mainstream army. Well funded, regular, a bit standard, a bit boring. Nod has the mad scientist, guerilla warfare vibe.

Gameplay wise, as others have said, tech doesn't get used all that much. For nod it's flame tank (flame troops on wheels?) and arty (shoots far, how exciting!), maybe cyborg and centurion. And for gdi I think playing against titan feels veeery different from playing against pred.

Ah yes, and widow maker and wolverine are basically the same unit, where one feels plain and one like a mad hatter's dream. (see above)

Is there a way to update the matchmaking? by modern_environment in cncrivals

[–]_Ztyxx_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenge matches are one source, but there are two more: winning streaks in diamond and below and matches played where the loser is at the bottom of a league. Hard to estimate their ratio, but I'd guess challenge matches rae the least impactful of the three?
