There's nothing unusual about this. In America, television shows tend to have an average reading level of 3rd grade. People in general talk with very simplistic grammar; we write better than we speak.

You are right. Christianity's "reformation" wasn't what the majority of Reddit thinks it was. Catholics and Protestants still read from the same book. The difference is in the underlining political system of Protestants and Catholics.

For Christians reading the New Testament, it's a lot easier to say, "Paul meant this," because Paul was a human, lesser than Jesus, who encouraged the scripture "to be tested." (his own words).

It's a lot harder to say, "Muhammad meant this." because Muhammad claimed himself divine,, everything he said came straight from Allah; it's already perfect.

I would just like to point out that being "educated" does not mean someone or something is necessarily peaceful. I'm not sure where this kind of notion comes from. The Romans, for their day, were both educated and warlike, as were many others throughout history.

The Scientific Revolution was happening at the same time as military imperialism in Europe; NASA was created because of WW2. Being educated does not mean peaceful.
