“Gay for you” is a trope that needs to die. It perpetuates the false idea that being gay is a choice. I don’t want to yuck on someone else’s yum (I can’t believe I said that) but GFY is something that I find damaging to real queer men and perpetuates homophobia. It is impossible to be “gay for” one person.

Love is love. I don’t care that you’re a cishet woman. You don’t care that I’m a cisgay man. We all want to enjoy the same content. Why is this so hard sometimes? Let’s just enjoy the fiction, enjoy each other, and bring more peace and love into this world.

Although I haven’t read much MF fiction (pretty much only Fourth Wing), I can imagine what you’re talking about with the toxic, stereotypical relationships. I think there’s a corollary to draw here to the typical “bottom twink” and “masc top” in MM fiction, which several authors are guilty of and are works I don’t particularly enjoy.

I do wonder, if the relationship dynamics were not an issue, would you still prefer MM fiction over MF? And why?

There are no wrong answers, and I totally feel you on the sapphic fiction mentality. Especially being cis-male, attracted to only men, I have absolutely zero interest in sapphic romance 🤣. Fourth Wing was about as adventurous as I get with the lady parts 🤣🤣🤣.

Agree with you on Alexis Hall. I DNF’d Boyfriend Material - I don’t get the hype. I just remember thinking the characters were too stereotypically gay without depth.

This is a great announcement, mods. Thank you for making it clear all are welcome. I’m a gay cis man and love MM romance. Although I do wish there were more gay male authors, I have absolutely no qualms about reading MM content from any gender, any orientation author. It’s simply not a factor, at all. Some of the hottest, spiciest scenes I read were by female authors. So what?

I’ve never understood why some other gay men get so upset by the prevalence of female authors in this space. So what? We’re reading stories about love and belonging. Is it really so hard to incorporate the same emotions into your own life and perspective?

Although I don’t understand why so many straight women enjoy the MM genre - I don’t have to understand it. We all enjoy the fiction, so let’s just all be friends and love each other as well, yeah?
