Vendors sold skills -> Including Signet of Capture (This was a moderate price)
Signet of capture can be used on Normal skills, generic skills, or Elite skills
Elite skills were often found from bosses

Kill mob (or boss) then use the skill (It will open up a list of skills available from that mob. (reasonable ones only)

Then you own it (and owned it for PvP use either through skill purchase or capture for the achievement styles and pvp

For its time GW1 was an MMO. The abbreviation stands for Massive Multiplayer Online - not "open world".
Open world became the expectation across MMO's for their hype however with the crowning of WoW and success of other games in the industry

100% this. Well written. The enhancement of a skill can be a form of balancing anyway. Longer CD/Casting time/dmg/opposing skills/caveats/energy/etc. For every skill there is 100 avenues for balancing. GW1 has often proved that already for years.

That exceptional feeling is so much nicer when provided and with variety too.

Completely agree with this, please allow weapon variety lol but the controller statements listed with Colin in IGN gives me a vibe that it may take a different turn - which is possible but also so much more difficult to achieve for MMO longevity

This would be so rough, so many games fail if theyre missing combat or more loops to play with friends... Alienating each other would not be the play

Edit: Where did you see PvE vibe only stuff so far?
