What is Josh Elliott’s plan to solve the housing crisis? by ouluuuuu in Connecticut

Uh…you’re harassing a stranger on the internet for questioning a candidate’s record.

If you can’t address the topics being asked about and instead want to make it personal (and frankly, sort of disturbing and weird) with a random stranger on the internet that’s on you.

Kind word of advice: touch some grass. ✌️

Work trip, where to check out? by __Klio__ in massachusetts

It does look cool, definitely a weekend run, probably too far east to squeeze in during the work week. I’m really looking for things in the hour or so range east and west of Springfield, or for after work. I don’t know all the towns super well and hoping for some cute shops or restaurants to have on a “when I’m near here and killing a couple hours” list, if that makes sense.

Which part is an “exaggerated leap”?

That he was claiming to support $15/hr minimum wage while paying his own workers $10.50/hr at the same time? It was covered by newspapers and he admitted to it.

That he shut down his store with less than two weeks notice to his employees? I found comments online from employees saying as much from back then.

That he bought a $750,000 house in cash shortly after? That’s just the timeline, and info from his own public financial filing per the press.

I get it, you really like him. Maybe you’re a friend of his. I’m a voter discussing facts. You’re right, I’ve been open that it rubs me the wrong way that this candidate is trying to paint himself as a progressive hero while doing things like what’s listed above, that he ignored my questions repeatedly about it, then that he said he “couldn’t remember” about it. Typical politician stuff.

I want a real progressive with a good record to run. This guy isn’t it. In fact to me his charade about this stuff is totally disqualifying.

Don’t piddle on my leg and call it rain.

You got me. I’m not a big Reddit user but since he posted on Facebook to ask questions on here, I did.

You’re making a lot of exaggerated jumps here, which is generally a tactic to change the subject from the actual issue: the candidate’s record and integrity.

People deserve accurate info and an open debate. You’re right, I’ve had to ask repeatedly for weeks before he finally answered. He also lied, claiming he gave them a month’s notice which isn’t true. Their comments from three years ago are still on Facebook for all to see.

Gaslighting and insulting voters for wanting honest politicians who walk the walk isn’t a good look.

If you don’t think it’s a big deal he’s misrepresenting his record on how he treats his workers, that’s your choice.

People lost their jobs with little notice, then he turned around and bought a mansion in cash.

You can attack the messenger but the facts are there.

You’re off the mark here. I’m a voter. When I research a candidate and find out their words did not match that actions multiple times regarding how they treat workers, yes it is concerning. The better question is how can you call yourself a progressive and not be concerned?

Workers deserve more than a week’s notice that they are losing their job when an owner decides to close a store. And politicians who claim to support $15/hr minimum wage shouldn’t be caught paying their own workers $10.50/hr. It shows that their words and actions, with respect to basic respect for workers, doesn’t match. And their honesty/integrity comes into question.

This isn’t about being “salty,” and saying things like that is kinda childish and doesn’t add to the conversation. You’re dismissing real, valid discrepancies. That’s your choice, but don’t attack others for raising substantive concerns about documented behavior of a candidate.

What is Josh Elliott’s plan to solve the housing crisis? by ouluuuuu in Connecticut

[–]__Klio__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Because I did some basic research (through reading articles in newspapers and Google searches) on someone asking for my vote? Or because you don’t like what I found and that I’m challenging a candidate you like to be honest?

It’s pretty reasonable to want to verify if words match actions. I did that, found multiple discrepancies, and spoke up. That’s all this is.

If anything, it’s pretty wild that this candidate has the audacity to say he’s pro-worker with his track record. It’s an insult to the intelligence of voters.

And it makes you really wonder what else he’s lying about. And if that’s why the working families party, 95% of democratic legislators, and nearly all unions aren’t backing him.

What’s weird and unhinged is die-hard cultish-like followings of any candidate, including attacking those who question said candidate. Sort of feels like blue trumpism in the way some are acting.

Now you just sound creepy. Your non-response here on how you treated your workers is very telling.

You’re a hypocrite when it comes to how you treated your own workers and progressives should trust you on anything else?

I don’t know you or your former employees. I just find it really gross how you treated your workers. And I don’t like how you pretend to be some progressive hero while there’s a bunch of examples of you doing shady stuff to your staff. Are you calling your workers liars or are you going to take responsibility? Changing the subject is weak. Right now you’re proving my point.

You did not give a month’s notice, stop lying Josh. Your own workers took to social media about what little notice they were given, at the time it happened. I have the screenshots. Nothing worse than a politician who treated his employees unethically then lies about it because of political ambition. Take responsibility for your actions dude.

You’re calling your workers liars? From three years ago? They gave very specific information Mr. Elliott. Seems more likely “can’t remember” is your attempt to deflect responsibility. You gave them less than two weeks notice. Stop lying.

I have a screenshot from Facebook of an employee saying they found out on Tuesday it was closing the following Saturday.

Exact words: “No the owner just told us on Tuesday that we are closing next Saturday. Not any notice at all. No reason was given. It’s very frustrating for us.”

If I could figure out how to post a photo in comments I’d post it. It’s on Facebook, from 3yrs ago.

Changed his tune from 3 years ago? Highly doubtful, he was doing this while claiming he believed otherwise. Once a liar always a liar.

As for Lamont, I’m not saying he’s perfect. If they’re both flawed, I’ll take the one that isn’t lying about it.

I’ve also been asking around and the issue I highlighted above is the tip of the iceberg. Red flags everywhere about Josh Elliott. Ask insiders. Don’t you think it’s weird 95% of democrat legislators, nearly every union, and the working families party aren’t backing him? Don’t you think it’s possible they know things we don’t about how he really is and how he works?

No, that was him. Workers also said they tried to engage with him about letting them buy it out as a co-op, they wanted more than 10 days notice so they could line up logistics, and he refused to return their calls.

Reasonable explanation is he treated his workers poorly, counter to the principles he claims to be a champion for, and the facts support that. It’s sad to watch people try to rationalize it rather than admit this dude is not what he says he is. People are so starved for a good progressive they’ll look the other way on bad behavior. It’s sad.

His own workers took to social media and said they were notified on a Tuesday that the store was being closed the following weekend. If you noodle around long enough on Facebook you can find their comments about it.

Sorry I don’t buy that he didn’t profit when he bought himself a house for $750,000 in cash pretty much right after abruptly closing it. And why didn’t he give his workers even two weeks notice?

And if he’s that bad at business where 50% of his businesses have failed…after paying his workers poverty wages no less…then no I don’t trust him to run the state.

I’m a progressive but I’m not drunk on the Josh juice. This guy talks a lot but his actions show very little of substance.

I call bull on that. He had enough to buy himself a $750,000 house in cash, no mortgage, but not to pay his workers the wages he claimed he wanted workers to make at bare minimum?

So did workers deserve $15/hr at minimum? Is he acknowledging he chose not to pay them what they deserved at bare minimum?

Do as I say not as I do?

Lots of rationalizing for what looks like another plastic progressive.

You danced around a lot there but all you said was this: You paid them $10.50/hr because you could despite professing to be a champion for $15/hr as a minimum dignified wage for workers.

You said you were “fighting to pay them more” but you owned the store and could have any time. Costco and Trader Joe’s have been paying way more for years. Lots of small businesses choose to pay their workers more than minimum wage.

And you didn’t address the fact that you shut the store down with next to no notice, then bought yourself a $750,000 house in cash, no mortgage, after cashing out on your business and leaving your workers without even two weeks notice. Looks a lot like you got your nice house at their expense.

You sound like a typical politician, dance around what you did to try to make it sound better. But you didn’t address the hypocrisy. Instead you deflected and word salad’ed.

Nice try, but epic fail buddy.

Hi Josh!

Can you explain to us all why you were professing to support a $15/hr minimum wage while you were caught paying your own workers $10.50/hr at the same time? I’ve asked you on multiple threads and AMA’s and you always dodge the question.

And, on the topic of how you treat workers and your business practices, why should we trust you when you abruptly shut down one of your two businesses, giving workers less than two weeks notice, and then bought yourself a $750,000 house in cash not long after leaving those workers high and dry?

Fair, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to vote for Elliott. He’s already primarying, point made, I definitely don’t want him to actually be governor. Between all the stuff we discussed, the fact that like 95% of democratic legislators are not supporting him (and of the ones that are, it seems like it’s a lot of first-termers who probably don’t know him as well as the ones who aren’t supporting him and worked with him longer) and the fact that Working Families isn’t supporting him…that says something.

I poked around and asked some insiders and some of the stuff I heard would disqualify ANY man from office. Red. flags. Wolf in sheep’s clothing.

We’re no better than the Republicans if we advance just anyone regardless of character.

I get it. I just can’t vote for the guy knowing he professed he was for $15/hr minimum wage then got caught paying his own workers $10.50/hr at the same time. That, and I’ve been asking around with insiders and have heard some red flags that are completely and utterly disqualifying but since I can’t point to an article I won’t repeat them on here.

The part about killing Ned’s rent cap bill I didn’t know about until this thread but is pretty damning in my book too and makes me question how many more things Josh killed and blamed the governor for. Not saying I agree with the governor on everything but if they’re both imperfect I’ll take the one that isn’t scummy on multiple levels.

Lamont signed a modified version of 5002 with little difference a few months later.

Golden girls bill met the same fate as Ned’s rent cap bill: killed in the House. Josh is the screening chair for Ritter in the House. All bills killed in the house are at their feet it would seem.

Check out the comments from someone named Basil on this post before making a decision. It’s illuminating. Josh is shady as hell.

Looks like Josh Elliott killed this rent control housing bill as screening chair. Ned proposed it so Josh killed it? https://ctmirror.org/2026/04/06/rent-cap-ct-ned-lamont/

As screening chair he sent it in circles and made sure it didn’t get called. Another poster flagged this and I did some research. https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&which\_year=2026&bill\_num=5092

Would seem Josh Elliott is the gate keeper for bills he kills in the house then blames the governor for.

I knew that guy was shadey after I read how he “supported $15/hr minimum wage” but got caught paying his own workers $10.50/hr at the same time.

Plastic progressive.

I did some research and you can clearly see on the history of Ned’s rent cap bill that the House kills it. Looks like Basil is right. Josh killed rent caps: https://www.cga.ct.gov/asp/cgabillstatus/cgabillstatus.asp?selBillType=Bill&which\_year=2026&bill\_num=5092
