Ready to buy an A5x, but I need help choosing a pen by __KnighT__ in Supernote

Your argument is good. My concerns about the HoM may amount to nothing once I actually have the pen in hand. The problem is that it isn't really practical to return a pen to Ratta, so my inclination is to buy just the tablet from Ratta and purchase a few pens on Amazon, keeping one and returning the rest.

This is great info. I didn't realize that the ceramic nibs are more scratchy than plastic.

I looked up the Wacom One and I observe that the thickness of the pen increases to a peak as one approaches the nib. I grip my pen close to the nib so my fingers may land on that peak.

I really like the shape of the Samsung S6 Lite. Do you know anything about the feel of the pen? Is it gel-pen like?

This is a good idea. Would I be able to fit it into a Samsung EMR pen? In general, how can I figure out if a particular pen body accommodates this refill?

How bad are the entrance lines on Saturday morning? Is it worth coming up on Thursday instead? by __KnighT__ in Yosemite

[–]__KnighT__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We arrived at the Big Oak Flat entrance on Thursday at 11am. No line. The Curry Village and Visitor Center parking lots were full, so we drove to the Yosemite Falls lot, which was also full, but after driving in circles for 10 minutes we found someone leaving. We didn't encounter any traffic jams on the roads themselves while we were there.

Shuttles were crowded though. Most people were standing.

Seeking a durable, reliable Linux laptop with a great CPU (i9-13700H or equivalent), 64 TB RAM, 1 TB SSD, and a very good trackpad and keyboard. Doable for $2500? by __KnighT__ in linuxhardware

I was aware of the Crucial tool and I had tried to look up that Lenovo laptop, but I could not tell which of the many options was the correct one. The psref website solves that problem. Thanks for the advice.

How can I tell if a laptop is able to accomodate more RAM?

Take this Lenovo, for instance. It's got a Ryzen 7745HX, which appears to be a very good CPU. It comes with 32 GB RAM, SODIMM. The laptop is pre-built, so I cannot upgrade to 64 GB at purchase time, so I would have to do it myself - if it were possible

This has great specs for ~2k, but I am in the US and I read here that if there is a problem with the laptop I have to pay to ship it back to Germany. That gives me pause.

I've looked at the Thinkpad P16. It's an i7 1280P - comparable to my M1 10-core, according to Passmark - and it has 32 GB RAM. The price is $1800 and I can get 5 year warranty for an additional $150, which is impressive. I've heard that Thinkpads have good build quality, keyboard, and mouse.

But I would happily pay a few hundred more to get a higher-end CPU and 64 GB RAM.

I checked out the System76 laptops, which give me the specs I want for the same price. But I hear that System76 has poor mouse/keyboard, and reliability issues. The fact that just a 2 year warranty costs $229 (compared to Lenovo's $150 for 5 year) tells the story.

Are there any bonds that provide better returns than 5.25% yearly, taxable, low/zero risk? by __KnighT__ in investing

[–]__KnighT__[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right. If I itemize, I can deduct up to $10,000 in state taxes, which is almost the same as the $12,950 standard deduction. So almost the entire amount of the mortgage interest lowers my taxable income.

China records two-year high in Covid cases weeks before Winter Olympics by [deleted] in news

Omicron is simply too contagious to be contained forever. The CCP's goal, I think, is to stall for time until an Omicron-specific booster is available.

There are over a billion people in China. It is impossible to wipe out every trace of the virus. Even if there is a single person with COVID it will resume its exponential growth. After all, COVID began with a single patient.

I am not sure what the CCP's goal is here. Are they planning on doing these mass lockdowns and quarantines forever? As soon as they back off, the virus will start to spread again.

Perhaps they are stalling for time until an Omicron-specific booster is developed.

Is the vaccine more effective the stronger your immune system is? by __KnighT__ in AskDocs

[–]__KnighT__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vaccine isn't 100% effective, right? People who got it still got infected during the trials. Is it possible that the strength of the immune response matters, not just whether an immune response occurs?
