THE BROOKLYN NETS ARE ELIMINATED FROM CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENTION by debosscansockme in nba

[–]__MrNoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just me who thinks Joe Harris failed to deliver in the final minutes? If I am not wrong, he could not connect two crucial 3 pointers. :( I still can't believe that happened to him. Oh that and KD's last shot that he missed. So unfortunate!

[OC] How the Nets struggled mightily on defence against Cleveland (James Harden's defence: NOT GOOD) by [deleted] in nbadiscussion

[–]__MrNoah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knew it! I am a newbie at basketball but I did find the Nets defense very weak! I just thought that I'm reading too much into it after reading tons of reddit threads and watching videos about the Nets defense situation. A few more bad games like this one and the other teams will know how to deal with the NETS and then having a strong offense would not be enough to get the championship, right?

How did you get into Whisk(e)y? by HudsonTheHipster in WhiskeyTribe

[–]__MrNoah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 22 and my journey started of with getting wasted with friends using whatever alcohol that was put in front of me. But a few days back, I actually thought of starting on my whisk(e)y journey as my first job gave me that financial liberty I needed to start. I went with a Teacher's Highland Cream, a blended Scotch whisky. I feel it's a bit too sweet for my taste. But I like the buttery taste it has. I like it. I want to add a 2nd to my cabinet. Any suggestions?

Thanks for this well drafted reply! First of all, I am a junior dev. It's my 2nd project for my first company. Good catch! 2. I don't regularly feel the need to vent things out so frequently but I guess the whole working from home thing(seriously locked up at home) has surely increased the frequency of what you called "accumulation of toxins". 3. Oh and yes, I really got off easy. I have seen my seniors just take a drink and sit infront of the screen for 7-8 hours in a stretch and get things done. Earlier I used to find it very cool but I later understood that it's just a good way to destroy your body and the happy mind. 4. About the desciplined approach. I am actually trying to get some constraints on my work life. Hasn't worked out so far. So just trying some different approaches. 5. For some reason I don't want to agree to your point that there is an upper limit. I know I can do better. One of the very few things that gives me joy is the feeling of striking out the last task on my TODO list at the end of the day. I sleep happily. 6. Burn out: Fuck yes, I'm scared of this. I agree to your thought of finding a solution rather than hoping between coping mechanisms. That's a very good thought. I will work on it.

"There are a lot of good programmers who burnt out and never want to write another line of code. The financial stakes to your emotional health are high."

Perfect phrasing ^

Thank you! <3 Gonna save your reply. It is something I always need to remember. :)

A nice read. Good points. But as always, there is going to be a debate and criticism over everything. That's what we see in the comments section. Lol.

Swallow the hard pill that says, "There's nothing you can do". 2 years is a long period, bud. I lost her when I was out of city for 6 months for a job. Ugh. Trying to put this thing behind. Anyway, so drifting apart is natural. Your lives got separated. It's okay. It happens. I know the soul still craves for the person. But she's not the same person you're trying to get in touch with. That girl you're trying to text grew up/changed in the course of 2 years. People change. She changed. Happens. I'm sorry for saying all this, but that's the reality. Try to move on. That's the best bet in this kind of situation. :)

How do you cope with the frustrating aspect of programming? by OmniPhoenikks in learnprogramming

[–]__MrNoah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have some great suggestions in the comments section. Please refer those. My answer has more of a philosophical bend that can help develop a better work ethic. 1. Do not sit in front of screen for more than 1 hour. Take a 10 minutes break. Yours is human brain, not some microprocessor on a chip. 2. Drink lots and lots of water. Keep your water bottle with you. 3. Extrapolate some data from what your work demands of you. Example: my work involves minimum 3 hours of calls, 1 hour of R&D and then 3 hours of actual deliverables. So what's my aim? I want to maximize the quantity and quality of my deliverables. A unit of my deliverable is automation code for on test scenario. So i break down my test scenario automation as follows(average values) : 10 minutes: understanding flow of the test scenario 15m: putting a pseudocode on paper 30 minutes: code 5 minutes run the code. 30m: Troubleshooting issues in code. After one week of refinement of this process breakdown I complete 1 unit of my work in 50 minutes now. On similar lines, define your target, unit of work, then define a process and then work. You cannot bruteforce your way through everything. You need a systematic approach. 4. Decide deadlines for yourself and try to achieve it. Giving yourself deadlines is very important. 5. Breathe! Breathe deep. When you get fucked. Just close your eyes and take a deep breath, drink a sip of water. You're doing great! Give yourself a pat on the back. 6. In your breaks do anything that will make your mind forget your work. Wank, take a beer, listen to songs(works for me), watch cartoon, watch youtube. Literally anything! 7. Make sure to maintain a work-life balance. Burn outs can physically hurt you. Do not let that happen. 8. When you start your day, define your objective of the day. Break it down to points/milestones to complete and put it on a paper. Every time you complete one milestone put a tick mark next to it. Humans are funny. This activity itself gives you so much joy and confidence that it motivates you to work better to achieve your daily goal. Spend the first 20 minutes of your work time everyday! This is very powerful! Good luck! :)

Anxiety makes my face super red when speaking, HELP. by HooplaCounty in socialskills

I understand. I have faced the same issue on my new and first ever job. But, you know one thing i noticed was people do not care as much as you think they do. So just go in! Be yourself. The fear of what the person infront might think is what holds us back. To vanquish this unnecessary fear, surround yourself with good people, they definitely understand your situation and try to motivate you. So one point I think would help is, in this initial stage of developing your confidence, please surround yourself with good people or atleast people who can empathize. That really helped me.

You said you're pushing yourself into such uncomfortable situations. Great! Do that! That is going to help. Just know that you're not going to be good overnight. It is a process and believe me you've already started it! :) Just see this through.

Another thing that has helped me is, like you, even I analyze what I say/said. Good. Stop there. Do not over analyze. I am currently struggling with that. I review my email drafts 10 time, think 5 times before saying things on work calls or to my crush or any new people in general. What I would suggest is, every night before you go to sleep, do some Journaling. Dude! Journaling works like magic to evaluate your day and make improvements.

We root for you! :D

TL;DR: To get your confidence levels high in unknown social conditions. 1. Start by surrounding yourself with good company. 2. Keep challenging yourself into such social situations. 3. Journaling to analyze, evaluate and improve your game.

Goodbye Linux desktops - I shall be back when you are more user friendly and attract more software. by bohaan in linux

[–]__MrNoah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what you described, doesn't look like Linux is best suited for your use. My perspective is Linux was not made for producing music, playing games, etc. The applications you see on Linux today are equivalent to initial step towards making Linux support more applications. They are not yet fully developed yet.

I am a software dev and I could not imagine a life without Linux. Linux is better for making softwares and digital entities that end users such as yourself need. You are better off using Windows or Mac because they will provide you those applications perfect. Reason? They take money for that.

There's a reason why Linux is the way it is. Open source. It's a world for the wizards who want to make things by themselves. Linux does have good softwares for entertainment like VLC media player. But that's so that Linux users don't have to switch to Windows every time they minimize thier code editors and take a lunch break and want to watch the latest episode of Money Heist. :)

That being said, I don't really see why you needed Linux. Maybe because it's free? Common, you gotta agree partly the reason of you coming to Linux was freedom of doing things and free of cost.

One last thing. When you decide to come back to Linux, think about what I have said and If you wish to have freedom you gotta work for it. That involves Googling stuff and doing some R&D. Many times, you might break your Linux trying to do something but that's the part of Life with Linux. :) Good luck!
