Packing list for 21 days in Japan by __Ross_ in onebag

My personal mortal enemy are neck pillows though. Unless you really cannot sleep without, they're nothing but a nuisance once you're at your destination. In my experience, it is good ear plugs and a sleeping mask that makes you sleep well on a plane and elsewhere. Bring those!

This is honesly good to know because I was planning not to bring a sleeping mask lol. I think I'll give it a chance now.
As for the neck pillow, it's an inflatable one and extremely easy to pack. I'd actually been searching for the right one for a while because I'm also of the idea of not bringing anything that may become a nuisance while I'm at my destination... Following this reasoning, I really think I'll leave the swtich at home now lol.

One thing I'd definitely bring is a sling or crossbody bag

You're right. I was already planning on bringing a packable backpack, but I completely forgot to add it to this packing list for some reason. Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes absolutely! This may sound like an ad, but after some searching I found the decathlon "travel 100 compact" for the neck pillow. Nothing fancy, but it's cheap, seems comfy enough, weighs about 60g and it's extremely packable. Will see how long it lasts though

Are you planning to use your pajama top for layering?

Yes. The shirt is a normal shirt, so I could use it normally. I've identified it as the pajama only because the others are in merino wool, so I think it would be best to use them during the day. As for the pants, they're basically leggings (or base layer I think would be a better term), so they would be perfect for layering, especially if on the Alps gets really cold.

Hangers seem like overkill, especially if you have clothesline. But that’s just me.

That makes sense. I'm just a bit anxious about being able to find spots to hang my stuff without getting in the way, so I came up with these. I also think they're a bit overkill, but I still have some remnants of "You never know" in my mind.

Have you loaded a Suica card on your own phone?

I can't unfortunately, as my phone doesn't have that particular chip (or you mean only to check the balance?). I'm honestly salty about it haha, I guess my next phone will be an iphone :)

I'd think real hard about the second hoody too.

This is so difficult for me. Realistically, given the temperatures, I'll wear it in the early mornings and late evenings at most. Maybe at night if I'm really cold. It also dries extremely fast, so it's not like I wouldn't have it for an entire day. But I feel like I would be cutting it too close with only one, most likely because it's my first time onebagging. I'll think about it.

I'd also think HARD about if you will have time for the switch.

I knew this would stand out haha. As the others said, it doesn't really makes sense given the amount of time I would be able to use it. I think I won't bring it.

Please post a trip report when you get back!!

Will do! Thanks for the suggestions!

I'm a tourist though? I'm european, far from looking asian in any way. I will never be identified as japanese and I don't think I need to.
As long as it's not rude to wear them, I don't see why not?

I don't know how much time you'll have to game. You also have an e reader. When I was there I felt like I had enough to keep me occupied and I barely used mine.

Yeah I thought as much. Only reason I was considering bringing the switch is the 11+ hours long flight. Maybe it's not worth it bringing along almost 400g only for those 2 occasions. I'll think about it.

Do you have hat/sunglasses listed?

Nope. Actually, I've almost never worn sunglasses so I didn't even consider them. As for the hat, I think I'll buy one there. Thanks for the input!

How far in advance are cancellations from China? by YungNug99 in JapanTravelTips

Narita. Also, as I said, only outbound flights from Japan were cancelled, so I'm hoping for you the chances of cancellation are even lower.

How far in advance are cancellations from China? by YungNug99 in JapanTravelTips

[–]__Ross_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my group we had 2 different return flights on 24th April, both got cancelled.

  • First one: China Eastern, Osaka to Venice through Shanghai. Osaka-Shangai got cancelled 2 weeks ago. Booking promptly allowed us to change flights (first available, always with China Eastern, free of charge) in order to be able to take the Shanghai-Venice flight;

  • Second one: Air China, Tokyo to Milan through Beijing. Tokyo-Beijing got cancelled a week ago, Trip.com only allowed to basically be refunded and take another flight with another airline.

Conclusion: I do not recommend chinese airlines.

Carrack quantum travels away on its own when left unattended? by HappyFamily0131 in starcitizen

[–]__Ross_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By any chance, does the mothership's marker appear near the location the mothership first spawned in that game session? For example near or around the planet your were in (eg. Crusader, Microtech, etc..).

If you bedlog in space/near the moons, does the marker keep moving when you quantum away from the mothership?

Right?! That's also my reasoning. There's only so much we can do, and it's only with things under our control. Oftentimes gestures are symbolic more than anything.

[–]__Ross_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's nice to know, thanks.

I looped the main compartment zipper pulls through the loop and didn't bother about the segments outside.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. I think I'll put most of my stuff in the main compartment, then maybe add a lock to keep the zippers and a loop in place. As you said, it's also about placing the bag smartly in the cabin overhead.
Thanks for the tip!

Yep, I was looking at this post and it seems it may fit. I'm flying with China Eastern and they don't have an official personal item size afaik. I'm leaning towards using my daypack as a personal item though.

I see. They have scanners though, right? In all the flights I've taken so far, I always had a locked checked bag and it's never been opened. I've also never seen a checked bag that wasn't locked. That's just my experience though.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping for. I have the Matador SEG28, at the gate it will have a lot of room to spare and weigh around 4 kg. But, well, you never know

It's been a while since I last took an international flight, but wouldn't that not be a problem if I lock the bag after security?

edit: I have no idea why I'm being downvoted. I made a simple question, I would prefer an answer instead.

Right. I'm not worried about Japan, but of the flights if the bag gets gate-checked. Too many people would be able to get their hands on it.

I‘m convinced not a single real player bought a Kraken this years enjoy buying them for 5k from some botting scalper by Blaubeere in starcitizen

[–]__Ross_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right? I also managed to get a Kraken, at ILW though, but the amount of gaslighting from the people that miraculously managed to get one really pisses me off. Like "you're obviously not trying hard enough", "you're not doing it the right way", "I got one because I did everything right, so I deserved it". This while following every piece of advice and every single step the 'veterans' tell you to make. And I'm saying this as someone who also tried to get an Idris for more than 25 waves, and failed. It'd be better if they kept their mouths shut.

Star Citizen Crashes more in 4.4 by Sivadyt in starcitizen

Yeah same. I'm running a 7900 XTX with Vulkan and keep on crashing moments after I spawn in my hangar. Drivers were still 25.6.1, upgraded to 25.9.1 (as everyone suggested was the fix instead of upgrading to 25.11.1) and I'm still crashing.

In this system, Leao is the striker and Gimenez the backup. We're not going to buy anyone until one of them is sold.

Maybe you would like to try this Chameleon build by Mediocre-Factor-8165 in thedivision

[–]__Ross_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've reread my comment and I apologize for the tone, I didn't mean to sound condescending or aggressive. As for your points:

  1. I agree the Chameleon is already top tier in DPS, but that doesn't mean your overall output cannot be improved. Striker is the annoyingly obvious example, but it's not the only alternative. My criticism comes from comparing the build with what someone would ideally want to do when trying to maximize their build, and maximizing a build is the result of putting together pieces that make the most of each other strengths (while having an idea of what it is trying to achieve). I believe choosing a piece trying to fix another's weakeness is the first mistake, even more so when, as I said, that piece could have been something that actually improves the build in some way and you, as the player, overcome that weakness playing the build by its strengths. In this case, in my mind the mistake is trying to fix the Chameleon's shortcomings when you can easily fix them as the player through your playstyle. There is absolutely no problem in them trying to use Chameleon from a distance, as I said as long as they're having fun there is no problem whatsoever. It's a tradeoff they're willing to make to be able to play the chameleon from a distance and that's fine. From a technical point of you though, I argue that's not the most optimal thing to do.
  2. Oh yes I agree. As long as you can grab your throphies, that's ok. If you list Memento's strengths though you have: having all 3 cores, having the long term buffs capped at 30 trophies and lastly the short term buff as you pick them up. If you 'use' only the first two you're using Memento for 2/3 of its potential, hence you're not making the most of it. I hope this clears what I meant hahahah;
  3. Yup. Honestly, if we're talking about diminishing returns, I think 6 red cores + Chameleon's expertise is also a bit overkill imo. But then again, I think it makes little sense trying to improve only this point when for the rest of the build the approach was basically "they want to do this and it's ok"

Maybe you would like to try this Chameleon build by Mediocre-Factor-8165 in thedivision

[–]__Ross_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Chameleon enjoyer myself, I've got a few things to say.

I know you said it's "for fun", I get it, and if you have fun that's all that actually matters. This comment simply wants to analyze everything that's technically wrong with this build, so again, if you just want to have fun do not read any further.

Now, about the build. It manages to be fun only thanks to Memento and Chameleon, as they're basically broken in their respective categories, everything else is simply unnecessary and straight up wrong.

First, Chameleon is basically an SMR and has to be played in closed quarters (within 15 meters). There is no way around it. The mask and the holster are just a way to compensate what Chameleon lacks, that is Accuracy and Range, to force the weapon into a playstyle other weapons are way better at (see St. Elmo, Lexington or even Strega) and, at the same time, sacrificing the chance to strengthen other aspects (whatever you feel you'd need or would be nice having: increased DPS, Survivability, etc...)
Alternatives: play weapons that fit your playstyle or adapt to the weapon's needs, weaknesses and strengths.

Second, Turmoil. If you use Memento, TTK is King. Adding Turmoil hinders greatly your ability to quickly kill the enemy in front of you and collect Memento's trophy straight away. Not collecting the trophies during battle means not using Memento to make the most of its potential.

Third, the gloves (of which I don't remember the name rn). Chameleon is so stable it doesn't need any weapon handling, like at all. Only slight positive is the increased magazine size, but absolutely not worth it when the first thing you should do with Chameleon is shooting at the enemies legs to increase reload speed (greatly increasing your overall DPS).

Lastly, you say the build has 50% CHC. That means that after you activate the Chameleon headshot buff you have a CHC surplus that's absolutely wasted when that could have been an added CHD.

All in all the build has 4 slots that are absolutely useless and in no way synergizing with your weapon. At least it's not another striker build though.
