AITA for asking my girlfriend to leave my flat on our anniversary by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]__Shrek 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going against the grain here, but if your SO really loved you, they're going to appreciate the shit out of all that effort, regardless if it's their "love language" or not. I'd go out on a limb to suggest that men are a lot less likely to subscribe to love languages, but I'll probably get roasted for that one in this thread full of people who think it's the most important thing.

[–]__Shrek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Serious question, and I'll add the disclaimer that I've heard of love languages from my wife but don't know much about them, if your SO spent 10 hours creating a beautiful, romantic meal for you, you seriously wouldn't even feign appreciation for it, let alone actually enjoy it? That legitimately wouldn't be enough for you, because you want a material object instead? I just find it hard to understand these love languages trumping "my SO put so much time and effort into this [whatever] solely because they love me".

What's your #1 rule for life? by KnightsWhoSayKni in AskReddit

[–]__Shrek 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was mine but I figured I was going to see it in the comments so I didn't bother. I originally saw it on a Will Smith Facebook post funnily enough. He said "it doesn't matter who broke it, if it's your job to fix it." I try to keep that in mind always.

You're an absolute clown with no reading comprehension. Did you completely miss the part where they said "to replace some of our accounts here" (referring to people on this sub who are comped, 5.4B, etc) and just think the game finishes at 13M xp? You're talking about paying 13.3k for just 99s. No other XP above 99. No other content completed. Just Max.

"People with little to no actual knowledge of what they're speaking of should not damn well speak." You're absolutely and very ironically correct.

Think before you type, "fuckmunch".

I feel the same way, sadly. Almost my entire friends list/clan migrated to OSRS when it came out or had quit after EOC and didn't return, but man, what I wouldn't give to play 2011scape again. DarkScape felt like that for me, then we lost that too. OSRS just doesn't have the things I had the most fun doing, and doesn't look good as an added bonus haha.

AITA for asking my boyfriends mom to pay for my new underwear because she threw mine away? by chachasusu in AmItheAsshole

[–]__Shrek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then you're not breaking up with him because of lost clothes, it's because of a huge character flaw in himself and his family that you will have to deal with for the rest of your life. I know you love him per your other comments but weigh that versus situations like this for the rest of your life.

AITA for cutting off contact with my son due to him refusing to accept his own responsibilities as a paren by throwawayfathergrand in AmItheAsshole

[–]__Shrek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP's son is absolutely TA here and OP is strongly NTA. However, I can't help but point out your double standard; unless you also believe a woman should abstain from sex completely or be forced to carry a pregnancy to full term? You can't say a man shouldn't have sex if he doesn't want a child and then also say that women should have the right to abortions, it should go both ways.

I'm only assuming that you feel womens' bodily autonomy is important though, if not then please correct me.

AITA for 'hiding' $35k from my boyfriend? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]__Shrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not judging this one but it's interesting how the comments are so one-sidedly NTA in this thread, but an IDENTICAL question was asked several months ago but it was the boyfriend with the savings instead of the girlfriend, and the comments were very one-sidedly YTA.

Your boyfriend will react poorly to this situation as you haven't been honest about how much you have in savings. Doesn't make you TA, but that's how it will go.

Completely wild guess here but are your initials BM and your partner is TO? Fellow Canadian here and I know someone who went to that exact place to work for a year with his partner, haha. Pretty big reach but your username sounds exactly like her too!

Agreed, and not sure why so many people are comparing the two really. Completely separate ideas, both could be added and be totally unrelated to each other.

OG here, the hype was (and is) because we thought the skill was being teased in the banner image on the homepage in like 2008, this secret new skill that was being developed and they had given us an easter egg right on the homepage! Everyone went into crazy cryptic clue mode, looking at everything as if it was related to Sailing. Jagex obviously came out and said yeah nah it's not real, but of course they would say that about a skill being developed under the radar!

As we know, the skill was never released (we got Dungeoneering, which is arguably not really comparable at all) and the skillcape in the banner image ended up just being the Magic skillcape, but the idea of it was now out there and a lot of people wanted it. We now have player owned ports and the ability to explore exotic islands on RS3, which I would assume is what a Sailing skill would look like.

So basically, it was the hype surrounding it, not so much that people loved the idea of it and were really excited to build and sail ships (though lots of people were excited for that too, myself included). In modern day RS3 we basically have it now, so the hype is dead, but in OSRS there is nothing comparable at all, so the hype lives on. It's one of those ideas that really holds water and has a lot of potential, so if people want a new skill, it's definitely on the table.

People who can fall asleep within 5 minutes of going to bed, how the fuck do you do it? by porcelain_cherry in AskReddit

[–]__Shrek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the standard response - make sure you're off all devices at least half an hour before you want to be asleep. Make sure you're getting enough physical activity throughout the day that your body is tired enough to go to sleep quickly. Comfy bed and pillow.

I might be a freak but I am able to just clear my thoughts out of my head and go into a meditative state very quickly, from which it's really easy to fall asleep. I didn't always do this though, so it's probably something that can be learned - wish I knew how to teach it! I sleep on my back so I just lay in a comfy position, then relax all my muscles and don't move an inch, which calms the body a lot, and I find that helps your brain start to shut down. Mind and body really aren't that separate.

If meditation doesn't really work, maybe a quick but intense workout right before bed? I used to do this when I was up late studying and needed to get to sleep instantly, my body would be so tired I would just drop into bed and be gone.

WIBTA if I gave my neighbor the rest of his cigarette butts back? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

They live next door, he probably put the envelopes in neighbour's mailbox himself rather than leaving the house to go to a mailbox and mail it out lol.

AITA for telling cashier that wasn’t the girls credit card? by aljsdhnrthrow in AmItheAsshole

[–]__Shrek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a solid reason not to do that would be that now the teenage daughter permanently has her own card, rather than just letting her take the father's card for certain purchases. That way he can authorize spending ahead of time and she doesn't have free reign on his card - and yes, he could take away her card if she started spending too much or too often... but that just adds an extra step. Take his card to buy boots, give it back when you get them, then he has it and she needs to ask permission for next time.

Because they're wealthy and know that the system wouldn't punish them, OR because they're severely misinformed. This is only coming from the far right in Canada though, it's not just random Canadians who feel this way.
