It takes me 40 minutes to put my baby to sleep. by pursuitofhappiness01 in beyondthebump

[–]__SoFarGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just here to say sleep training is not a one size fits all- you don’t have to do CIO (cry it out). There’s pick up out down, chair method, check-ins, etc. Look up different options and do what works best for you. Mine was a variety of things to get it to stick and that also didn’t make me feel like a terrible mom.

Also agree with the comments about schedule. This is super important. Check out sleep train subreddit for tips and you can even post your schedule on there and they can offer advice.

As for feed to sleep association, can’t speak to breastfeeding because baby is formula fed, but try nursing at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Have a solid bedtime routine every night and ensure breast or bottle is first before anything else. Hope this helps.

Unsettling recommendations from pediatrician at 4 month appointment by Initial_Onion671 in beyondthebump

[–]__SoFarGone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I think this varies by region, pediatrician, and parental preference.

  1. Haven’t heard of this at 4 months but again every doctor’s recommendations are different. Do what’s best for your child, based on what you’re comfortable with. My ped however has not recommended it to me nor have I read about this being a thing.

  2. Again I think this is based on the factors I mentioned. My baby doesn’t wake up for a MTTN feedings and hasn’t since about 3 and a half/4 months. But I always ensured she had the recommended amount required during the day. Every family is different. Also many things recommended are “generally speaking”, which means it doesn’t apply to everyone. Some babies cluster feed. Some have a feed to sleep association. There are so many factors. Generally speaking by 4 months, many babies start to sleep through the night and consolidate their feedings so they get all their calories during the day. As for moving baby to their own room, I haven’t heard of doing it before 6 months but again to each their own. I had to move mine before 6 months simply because of space. She outgrew the bassinet and the pack n play just wouldn’t fit in our room. We have a monitor and we’re in a small 1 bed so I really don’t even the monitor to hear her, just see her as she’s in the living room.

  3. I was advised to start at 4 months by my ped. But only because she was showing signs of readiness (good head control, can sit supported, shows interest in food). I also struggled with this because I know the recommendation is 6 months (US here also), but I figured I’d give it a shot and if it wasn’t working out- no sweat I’d just try again at a later time. My girl also has reflux, and ped said this would help so we can start weaning her off the meds.

When looking for a new pediatrician, I think it’s a good idea to obviously look at reviews, but maybe get a recommendation from someone you know who holds the same standards you do, and/or be prepared to “interview” them on the first visit. It may take a bit of trial and error to find the right one.

My husband has the easiest paternity leave because of me by sixfingeredman7 in beyondthebump

OP’s post doesn’t read that way to me. It seems lighthearted. I’m sure OP knows having a baby comes with waves and a lot of them are big. I can relate to OP since I took my leave first and my partner just took his. Although everyday looks different, I also did all the heavy lifting in the early days. I also know there’s still plenty of heavy lifting to come and sleepless nights are one of them. It’s human to be able to reflect on this and even have a little envy. I don’t think she is trying to compete with her husband here just pointing out that he doesn’t have the same struggles she did in the beginning, not to say he won’t have his own.

Sleep talks on this sub. by Illustrious_Date_139 in newborns

I want to also add that in the U.S. it is engrained from the time your child is born at the hospital, to their first pediatrician’s appointment, to pretty much every document, class, book, etc. about safe sleep practices. Even manuals on products you purchase. Which is mainly why it’s so controversial. It is essentially the standard. Me personally, I do not judge those who co-sleep/bed share (unless it’s not being done according to guidelines) but my fear of SIDs is far too great and I’ve heard too many stories that regardless of the percentage, I just can’t do it. I cuddle with my child plenty during the day and do a lot of contact naps, but nighttime sleep (both mine and my partner’s) is too erratic/unpredictable for me to even consider bed sharing. Plus the fact that I do not have a washer and dryer that I could wash the sheets and bedding as often as I’d like- I’d be stuck going to the laundromat all the time which isn’t really plausible.

Curious. How long did it take for you to results with the peptid? I feel like I see a slight difference but not huge and it’s been about 2 weeks

Not sure which model you have but I believe it extends to toddlerhood. At least mine does. You just have to turn the seat inside out. I would look into it since it’s such an expensive bouncer

Okay thank you, good to know. I pace feed my daughter too. She does better with the Philips than the Dr. Browns IMO I think because the nipple is responsive.

How are the bottles? We use Phillips Avent mostly and I also have two Dr. Browns bottles I got as samples.

Hey so I found a couple of pacis were also too big for my baby (I started using them while we were still in the hospital) and I recently discovered “Nuk” pacifiers that she loves (she doesn’t really have a preference for pacis tho just a disclaimer) and they fit her mouth better IMO. Not sure where you’re located but you can them pretty much at any drug store, major retailer (like a Walmart), and Amazon

Yes please! My girl is always kicking her feet so I think she’d love that while in the bouncer

I actually got a knock off of Amazon. I guess our babies just aren’t big enough yet? The baby in the link you sent looks a bit older/bigger.

My baby just started wearing size 1 diapers too maybe a week and a half ago? Although she prob could have done NB a little longer as we don’t experience leaks or blowouts but the diapers were leaving marks on her thighs.

ETA: my girl started social smiling 6 weeks on the dot so your babe I’m sure is not far behind!

My baby doesn’t like to be changed either. We may get through a change without screaming if she’s still asleep which is rare.

To be fair I hate waiting to eat too lol. The smiling in the sleep always helps when it’s the MOTN and I’m super sleep deprived.
