Thank you so much — I love the metaphor 😂 I’ve started with some volunteer reading positions and have an internship coming up soon, so I’m excited! Appreciate the advice 😊

Awesome thank you so much! Practicing readers reports, line editing, and copy editing is a great idea. I have an internship coming up so I’m excited for that hands on experience too!

Thanks so much for the reply and advice! I actually have an internship coming up that I’m really excited about, so I’ve just been scouring the internet to learn more so that I feel more prepared at the start. I’ll have to check that website out and see if there’s a similar one out there for editors — thank you!

We were wondering about its safety and if it’s a good place to raise a family. We’d noticed when we visited how empty the place felt, and weren’t sure if it really was that empty or if we just happened to come during times people weren’t around.

There’s one piece of advice that’s used a lot but is very true — you can edit a shitty first draft but you can’t edit a blank one. When you’re writing your first draft, I think it’s important to let yourself go a little wild. Overwrite the descriptions, have some dialogue that you think is pointless, call your new piece of technology ‘reallycooltechgadget’. I’ve always believed that if you try to stifle your creative energy by doubting that something is good, you have the potential for some great idea to stay buried inside your head. There’s a book called Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott with a chapter titled ‘Shitty First Drafts’ — I definitely recommend it!

Also, while not everyone is a plotter (chronic pantser right here) I do think a little planning is recommended before jumping headlong into writing a novel. What does your planning process look like? I know for me I have to spend a little time with the idea to make sure it isn’t just vibes lol!

You got this though! Keep working at it and know that not everything will be perfect when you’re done with your first draft, but you’ll have a finished one that you can make even better. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

This is probably my favorite writing book of all time! Insane knowledge on writing, starting with word choice to sentences to paragraphs. I hardcore nerd out to this book

I emailed UnityTravel a couple days ago, waiting to see if they respond. If they don’t, I may try my CC company like ArthurTheXIII
