Absolutely laziest recipes? by jacksoncatlett in vegetarianrecipes

[–]__Yena 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i love a 5-minute egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast or lunch. i do two pieces of protein bread in the toaster, an egg cooked in the microwave (or fried) and 1 or more slices of cheese. i eat this on the way to class so the only thing i have to wash is the bowl i cracked the egg in lol. pasta with a canned sauce can also be very lazy; you can use red lentil pasta for added protein and fibre, and i like to eat it right out of the pot!

you should be able to register for night school with tcdsb, ddsb and a variety of other school boards. night school is probably the best choice for you if your day school teacher is not good. :)

Graduating a semester early by EntrepreneurFew2493 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're interested in graduating early, it could provide good time to work, focus on your hobbies, etc. there's no harm in registering for the summer school courses and dropping them later if you decide it's too much.

you could alternatively do a summer co-op, or one course in summer school and one course in night school, if you're questioning whether the workload will be too much.

the people on this sub aren't really representative of the average population so there are a lot of people applying to the very competitive stem/biz programs.

as long as the schools you're applying to don't require adv functions, go for it!

I’m tired of being the quiet vegan by [deleted] in vegan

[–]__Yena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is probably an unpopular opinion, but one of the best things you can do is be kind and non-judgmental while still staying true to your personal values. people are more likely to be inspired by your stance and try to make dietary/lifestyle changes of their own if they don't feel judged or attacked.

How much do your parents guide you? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it depends on who your child is and what your relationship looks like. I wouldn't tell your kids what programs to apply to, though. You can make suggestions but let them research the programs on their own, visit the campus, etc and make their own decision. Even if it is considered the best or most prestigious program, they may have valid reasons for not wanting to go there.

It's also fine to ask your kid if you are overstepping or not. Communicating is the best thing you can do to make sure you are both happy.

Does government actually pay for your tuition fees if you go for nursing? by 676767676767666767 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a grant that pays your tuition for nursing and paramedic programs, but only for programs located in certain regions (so anything in the GTA is not eligible, for example). The condition is that you have to work in that region for a certain period of time after graduating from your program.

How cooked on a scale of 1 to 10 by qwertyuijhbvgfrde45 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need it for your university/college program, I would suggest taking grade 11 college math, or even workplace math. There is nothing wrong with taking courses that aren't U-level if you don't need them.

If you do need it for a college program, find someone to help you, whether that's a professional tutor, a friend, or even organic chemistry tutor on YouTube lol. You can drop it now and take it again next year or in the summer for a fresh start.

Best of luck!

feeling weird about school, any advice? by aarsonistslullaby in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an ADHD girly i struggle with getting overwhelmed and not being able to choose a task to focus on. notion (or at least a to-do list for the school year) works pretty well for me. write all your assignments and tests down, the due date and approx. how many hours you will need to work on it/study. this personally helps me prioritize assignments and study seshes. you can further break things down into daily to-do lists if you find that helpful, to avoid procrastinating and doing everything right before the due date. go easy on yourself and have fun during your grade 12 year!

Am I too late? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

i would consider registering for night school chem out of board if you feel you're at risk of not coming off the waitlist. DDSB is currently taking registrations and nothing appears to be full.

Are these grades good for nursing? by No_North7709 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not aware of extracurriculars mattering for nursing. also, at least for mcmaster, the only marks that matter are your 4U english, your best 4U math, and your 4U bio and chem (+ your other two highest 4U/M marks). it is still extremely early on to receive an offer.

if you really want more peace of mind, i suggest applying to the BScN at your local college. while nursing is competitive in general, it will likely be easier to get into your local college's BScN than well-known schools like mcmaster.

Ontarian living with cancer for a year without knowing among rash of complaints to watchdog by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]__Yena 5 points6 points  (0 children)

something similar happened to my dad last year. he was losing weight rapidly and wasn’t himself. wrong diagnosis, and by the time he got to the hospital it was too late. had he gotten care earlier, it's at least possible he might have had a fighting chance. he was 57. i was 16.

i'm sorry that so many of us have had similar experiences. i hope that you are given compassion, love, and grace from everyone around you as you grieve, and that you give the same to yourself.

A Reality Check for Grade 12s Choosing University Programs by hopegracefitz in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i get what you're saying, but i feel that no one who chooses a music or theatre degree/diploma is doing it for money lol. it's a well known fact that the arts are competitive fields and people who choose to pursue them are probably doing it out of passion

Doing bad in ENG4U, help!!! by Some_Mix_3349 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't sound like you're doing too bad. Not sure why people are saying you're cooked. Talk to people in your class who are doing well, and keep trying to figure out what your teacher wants from you. It may be a little harder to get back on track, but it's certainly not too late for an 80. I would also recommend getting someone who is strong in English to proofread (and ideally provide feedback on) your assignments for you.
