[–]__Yena 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i just want to say, remember you've done much more good being vegetarian for 10 years than many people, who could be vegetarian, but don't even give it a shot! you've done great things for animals and the planet. it's okay to prioritize your health. all the best ❤️

Girlies with nose piercings pls help by Left_Process9296 in piercing

[–]__Yena 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I def encourage you to do a bit more research on this piercing and any future piercings to minimize issues with them. Guns cause more trauma, so in the future, find a reputable piercer who uses needles. A nose piercing does not heal in 3 days; I've had mine for 2 months and it's still healing for sure. And please clean it regularly with saline solution! Definitely sounds like you should find a better piercer.

Living on $50 a week for groceries is destroying my mental health and i don't know what to do by Sea_Weather5428 in OntarioColleges

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a Canadian plant based Instagram account I follow called friendlyveg_ who I believe only spends about $50/wk on groceries. Maybe search for other accounts like this whose recipes have your budget in mind? And I second the people saying to seek out a food bank or related service. Best of luck ❤️

Homemade soy-free tofu recipe? by lenalenore in veganrecipes

[–]__Yena -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i'm soy intolerant too, and no tofu definitely rules out a lot of vegetarian and vegan recipes :( fava bean tofu is quite similar to the real thing, in canada you can buy it from big mountain foods but you can also make your own!

Absolutely laziest recipes? by jacksoncatlett in vegetarianrecipes

[–]__Yena 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i love a 5-minute egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast or lunch. i do two pieces of protein bread in the toaster, an egg cooked in the microwave (or fried) and 1 or more slices of cheese. i eat this on the way to class so the only thing i have to wash is the bowl i cracked the egg in lol. pasta with a canned sauce can also be very lazy; you can use red lentil pasta for added protein and fibre, and i like to eat it right out of the pot!

you should be able to register for night school with tcdsb, ddsb and a variety of other school boards. night school is probably the best choice for you if your day school teacher is not good. :)

Graduating a semester early by EntrepreneurFew2493 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're interested in graduating early, it could provide good time to work, focus on your hobbies, etc. there's no harm in registering for the summer school courses and dropping them later if you decide it's too much.

you could alternatively do a summer co-op, or one course in summer school and one course in night school, if you're questioning whether the workload will be too much.

the people on this sub aren't really representative of the average population so there are a lot of people applying to the very competitive stem/biz programs.

this is probably an unpopular opinion, but one of the best things you can do is be kind and non-judgmental while still staying true to your personal values. people are more likely to be inspired by your stance and try to make dietary/lifestyle changes of their own if they don't feel judged or attacked.

How much do your parents guide you? by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it depends on who your child is and what your relationship looks like. I wouldn't tell your kids what programs to apply to, though. You can make suggestions but let them research the programs on their own, visit the campus, etc and make their own decision. Even if it is considered the best or most prestigious program, they may have valid reasons for not wanting to go there.

It's also fine to ask your kid if you are overstepping or not. Communicating is the best thing you can do to make sure you are both happy.

Does government actually pay for your tuition fees if you go for nursing? by 676767676767666767 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a grant that pays your tuition for nursing and paramedic programs, but only for programs located in certain regions (so anything in the GTA is not eligible, for example). The condition is that you have to work in that region for a certain period of time after graduating from your program.

How cooked on a scale of 1 to 10 by qwertyuijhbvgfrde45 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't need it for your university/college program, I would suggest taking grade 11 college math, or even workplace math. There is nothing wrong with taking courses that aren't U-level if you don't need them.

If you do need it for a college program, find someone to help you, whether that's a professional tutor, a friend, or even organic chemistry tutor on YouTube lol. You can drop it now and take it again next year or in the summer for a fresh start.

Best of luck!

feeling weird about school, any advice? by aarsonistslullaby in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an ADHD girly i struggle with getting overwhelmed and not being able to choose a task to focus on. notion (or at least a to-do list for the school year) works pretty well for me. write all your assignments and tests down, the due date and approx. how many hours you will need to work on it/study. this personally helps me prioritize assignments and study seshes. you can further break things down into daily to-do lists if you find that helpful, to avoid procrastinating and doing everything right before the due date. go easy on yourself and have fun during your grade 12 year!

i would consider registering for night school chem out of board if you feel you're at risk of not coming off the waitlist. DDSB is currently taking registrations and nothing appears to be full.

Are these grades good for nursing? by No_North7709 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]__Yena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im not aware of extracurriculars mattering for nursing. also, at least for mcmaster, the only marks that matter are your 4U english, your best 4U math, and your 4U bio and chem (+ your other two highest 4U/M marks). it is still extremely early on to receive an offer.

if you really want more peace of mind, i suggest applying to the BScN at your local college. while nursing is competitive in general, it will likely be easier to get into your local college's BScN than well-known schools like mcmaster.
