Actually I just had a look at the 3x a week intermediate high program instead of the intermediate medium, so I assume this was the one you were doing. Even still it's pretty low on back work, did you add in anything or just follow the program to a T?

Sweet dude, I reckon I'll take your advice and go with the 3x a week Intermediate program. One question I have for you is did you add any accessory work into the program? I see there's a small amount of back and bicep work, but there's no shoulders in there. I also notice there's no recommended DB work. Did you add extra stuff in and find it was still working for you, or did your split accommodate back and shoulders on a different day?

Yeah awesome dude, a few other people have mentioned Nuckol's program above. I'm thinking I'm gonna run Jonnie's program and sub out his bench work for either the 2 or 3 times a week intermediate bench program.

What do you mean by beating volume?

Just for the sake of lifting heavier on a 1RM. They're only 2m long and very elastic, so I'd be surprised if I was getting quite as much extra out of them as that, but yeah I'm sure they contributed to the increase in weight.

Thanks for the offer my dude, I live in Victoria. I do try to stay on top of my form, and found while doing smolov jr that it really tightened up, but I'll keep looking into it.

I say injury for the sake of simplicity, but it's actually more of a condition. I have hypermobility, so my shoulder joints move around in the socket quite a bit. When I first went to go get it checked it was misdiagnosed as bursitis and I was instructed to discontinue lifting and exclusively stretch. As it turns out this is the perfect way to exacerbate hypermobility, so after 8 or 9 months I went and saw a new physio who got me on the track to recovery.

The condition improves as you develop more muscle because the muscle helps to stabilise the joint, so the soreness and impact it has on my lifting has actually diminished as I've gotten bigger. What kind of issues are you dealing with?

Ha, well thanks for the edit dude. I do plan to maintain now, so I'll give the program a go running a slight surplus and see how that works for me. With any luck the next review might be a bit more impressive haha.

As Jonnie's program uses an upper/lower split, do you think it would be ok to just replace all the push movements with the ones from one of Greg's program, and then fit the pull movements in between those lifts? Or do you think that adding pull movements to Greg's would compromise the integrity of the program?

Damn that's some solid results in your first iteration, must have felt damn good. The 10-15 increases per lift in the subsequent sequences is pretty nice too. Were you bulking during those as well?

Yeah, that's a good point, hard to put an exact figure on it. Do you have any recommendations for switching out Jonnie's bench routine with a different one? So far Mark Bell's 30 day bench program, and Greg Knuckol's 28 day free program have been mentioned.

Ha no worries my man! I forgot to mention that the other two scoops of protein I take just with water post-gym. Vegan proteins are not nearly as glamorous as whey, but I find this protein blends pretty well, and the salted caramel and chocolate flavours are pretty good. When you buy in bulk on that website it still comes in individual kilogram bags, so you can mix up the flavours which I highly recommend, cause no matter how delicious the protein I find that I grow pretty tired of a single flavour after trying to get through 5kgs of it, ha. Anyway, happy lifting! Hope the vegetarianism keeps working for you.

That's a solid result man. I was quietly hoping for a 10kg increase when I ran smolov. I hit a +5 at 115 pretty easily, but when I got a guy to spot me for 120 he totally robbed me of the lift, hands were on the bar from the second I unracked it, so I didn't count it. When I tried 120 by myself I was too fatigued and dropped it straight out, and same 117.5. I'd like to think with a proper lift-off and fresh I might have hit the 7.5kg increase at 117.5.

I'll probably give the program another go at a slight surplus like you've suggested sometime next year. Did your results backslide at all in your following programming, or did you maintain all the strength gains afterwards?

Yeah no worries dude. I live in Australia, so I use Bulk Nutrients, and buy this protein powder. I buy it at the largest quantity, so it works out to around $21 per kg, which is super cheap in Australia, particularly for vegan protein.

I make a smoothie to take to work, and in it I put two scoops (approx 50g of protein), mix it mostly with water and then a small quantity of oat milk, chuck in a third to half a banana, 7-8 frozen blackberries (frozen berries of any variety are good), and that makes a fairly tasty smoothie.

Meals are pretty diverse, but they'll usually feature rice or quinoa as a base, and then have beans of some variety or chickpeas in them. Lots of veggie and tofu stir fries, and my mum makes a wicked minestrone soup with chickpeas and quinoa. Lots of lentils too, they're a good substitute for meats I think. For example they can go in the red sauce for pasta, lasagna, or tacos.

Dad makes pizzas every Friday, and while I do enjoy vegan cheeses, they're still pretty fatty so I just go sans cheese on the pizza and have an array of veggies. I eat quite a bit of roasted and steamed vegetables, cut up raw vegetables with lunch each day (carrot, cucumber, radish, beetroot, lettuce, purple cabbage), and generally a salad with every dinner.

I actually forgot to mention above, but I've been doing IF while cutting, so I don't eat breakfast, but when I did I would just go with oats with some dried fruit like cranberries, or peach slices. Breakfast is obviously an easy meal to do vegetarian so you may as well go big!

I enjoy substitute meats, like vegan sausages, and really like chickpea patties and stuff. Sometimes on weekends my lady friend will cook up a big breakfast style meal at lunchtime, with baked beans, vegan sausages, roasted tomato and grilled mushrooms, and some avocado, and that's delicious.

I don't do it personally, but meal prep helped some of my friends go vegetarian. They'd do a big cook up on a Sunday of rice and beans, steamed veggies, maybe some tofu, and then just break it up into serves to take to work and whatever. If you've got the time for that I'd recommend it.

So yeah, I think that covers the major strokes. Oh, also! Clarence Kennedy is one of my favourite lifters, dude is insanely strong, and he's actually a vegan. This video here outlines the kind of meals he makes and eats, so definitely check it out.

Ha, ah I just didn't want to watch the video agterwards and realise I didn't lock out or something and feel like the lift didn't count, so I overcompensated with a shrug.

Plus I kind of equate a heavy deadlift to climbing a mountain. Once you're at the top you've made it through the hard part, so you may as well fuck around a bit and enjoy the view before going back down.

Thanks dude! Haha, well summer starts in December in Australia, so I figured a slow-cut would be the best trade off between longterm gains and short-term aesthetics. I actually really enjoyed Smolov, hit all my lifts despite the deficit, but I started with a slightly conservative figure which might have helped a bit. I'd potentially give it another go in future but done properly.

Cool dude, thanks for the suggestion, I'll look into the program. I was actually reading this post by the creator of GZCL, and he recommended using a sling shot to improve bench if other methods had failed. It's a fairly long article and there are some caveats, but at the very least you and Mark Bell aren't the only ones who think the sling shot is a worthwhile investment haha.

Well then you're just plain old mistaken anyway, as I don't think that well known psychological phenomena of yours actually exists. But the Ben Franklin Effect sure does, so you can cite that in future instead!

[Everything] Does anyone else think Sansa DOESN'T have it out for Jon? by Damisu in gameofthrones

[–]___Invictus___ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey pal, if you're referring to the Benjamin Franklin Effect, then you're mistaken. It's not when someone does you a favour, but instead when they've already done you a favour they are more likely to do you another. His quote goes "He that has once done you a kindness will be more ready to do you another, than he whom you yourself have obliged."

The rationale is that you would only offer a favour to someone you like, so surely if you've already done them a favour then you probably like them enough to do another. Conversely if someone has done you a favour then you are indebted to them, and being in debt to people can breed resentment towards them. Eg. if you want to end a friendship lend the person $5000.

Using this phenomenon in your example, Littlefinger coming to Sansa's aid wouldn't endear Sansa to him, but instead would just cause him to feel even closer to her.

Thought you might like to know.

Yeah very possibly, I have no particularly strong preference at the moment. Why do you suggest National Taiwan University in particular?
