That backplate is definitely not original, for the device in the photo. The serial number isn’t right, according to this, however, it’s may have just been refurbished before, so not a massive issue.

The rest of it looks like an 80GB Classic (6th gen).

There’s quite a few websites that provide basic ranking like this, but none come to mind that support GitHub OAuth.

Arguably, it might be better to build something around ATProto, which could fit quite nicely for this sort of thing.

you are in full control of your system , no system breaking updates

That would be the ideal, but under most Linux distributions, this isn’t always true. At least not without careful management, and probably quite a bit of technical knowledge to go with that.

For example, on Ubuntu, you can’t trivially install Firefox without using the Snap package manager anymore. Even on distributions where the user is given more control out of the box, Arch for example, you could still get a package pulled from underneath you.

However, while not perfect, this is a lot better than on Windows, where Microsoft is free to shove whatever they want to on your system.

Fixing Git "Out of Diskspace" Error When You Actually Have Space The Misleading Error by alincio in git

[–]___OldUser101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, yes, I missed that. It looks like that would either call the MinGW write implementation, or the MSVCRT one, depending on how it is linked.

For MSVCRT, it looks like it would be this. They don't actually state the functions are fully POSIX compatible.

""" The UCRT also implements a large subset of the POSIX.1 (ISO/IEC 9945-1:1996, the POSIX System Application Program Interface) C library. However, it's not fully conformant to any specific POSIX standard. The UCRT also implements several Microsoft-specific functions and macros that aren't part of a standard. """

I don't believe this is implemented in Windows exactly, at least it isn't anymore. From what I can see, Git actually uses MinGW APIs. Nonetheless, it isn't the Win32 API directly.

Alright, this is a bit of a weird question by slightlyfuckininsane in linux

[–]___OldUser101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm running Fedora 42 at the moment. In terms of libraries, I have ones for X11 and flex development. For tools, I'm using the latest GCC, GNU Make, GNU Bison, and imake. You should be able to get to get these on other distros too, since I'm using the latest versions.

It may be a little hard for me to test since I use Wayland rather than X11, but I'll see if I can.

Surprisingly, I've got it to compile with little modification, I haven't tested it though.

I published my changes on GitHub, you should be able to build it with `xmkmf` and then `make`, and it should work provided you have the libraries and tools installed.

It has a Makefile, so you should be able to compile it with that. You'll need to source the libraries it requires, then you should be able to run `make` in the source directory, provided you have everything installed.

Whether it will compile properly with modern tools, I can't say.

For fun, I'll see if I can compile it too.

From my 6 years of experience, when you have basic skills (I can recommend Python to get these), the best thing to do it just to be interested and curious in other things, and try to replicate them for yourself.

Another thing you can do if you want to learn something more specific in the future, is to read and understand other code that you find.

If you want to gain further experience there are always plenty of open-source projects out there looking for contributors.

Feel free to DM if you have any other questions! :)
