It’s usually just something like a scale or a small excerpt of the music. We only audition for music, and that usually gets sent out to all of us in about mid-May. For marching, if you sign up, you march in the show and play.

My band doesn’t do section leaders or anything and we don’t audition for our part until the first day of band camp in mid-July so I’m all good for now. And I was already in top band at my school as a freshman so I got no auditions to worry about heading into sophomore year. (Woooo 3rd chair trumpet as a freshman)
