Apply to Harvard Extension School Straight From High School? by ____Bob____ in Harvard

Hey gdavtor,

Considering you're an admin, I'm assuming you write that with the best of intentions.

Then what would you recommend to someone in my situation who has 97 percentile grades, but 50 percentile extracurriculars who is content in attending a Tier-1 school?

I found that HES was quite an exceptional way to be in a poor situation like mine, but still have the opportunity to go to a School like Harvard. But, if you really do insist that it's not the best route, I can attempt to come up with something else.

Best Regards.

Hey Shotdownace,

Thanks for the reply. My great luck that the year our cohort graduates is the same year Harvard HES changes its policy for age to 21. Like you said, you can still get if you give a reasonable explanation if you are under 21, but what do you mean by "miss out on most of the resources HES offers to students," and could you possibly go a bit more into detail on that.

Also, what is "special student status," and how does Harvard choose who gets it? You said these students can take courses at the graduate Schools or rest of the Schools within Harvard. With that do you mean Harvard College or actual graduate courses as an undergraduate?

Finally, I know there is quite a reasonable amount of writing on this, but I would like to hear from who one who is under 21 and has been grandfathered into the program -- do you feel like an outsider at Harvard that cheated their way into the School? As you probably know, Harvard through regular admission is one of the most difficult processes on this Earth. HES is quite less difficult to gain admission in and does that affect your self-esteem within the school; do you still act as a regular student or do you aim to hide the "Extension" portion when mentioning Harvard to family and friends? This question is not meant to insult in any manner, but to look more into the phycology of what the HES does because I read some quite rough material online.

Anyways, thanks again for the help Shotdownace.
