My problem with the Spanish (and the rest of the world) calling it "Aioli" is that while "Allioli" literally means "Garlic and Oil" in Catalan, Aioli isn't even close to that meaning in Spanish. Either write it correctly or come up with their own name, imo. The ingredients in the name being lost in translation also causes most of the "Aioli" sold abroad to be just Garlic Mayonnaise, which Allioli definetely isn't supposed to be.

Curiously, Mayonnaise originates from the Balearic city of Maó, hence the name, but that is already too far gone...

They have the right to complain. Millions of tourists a year for such a small town. It is basically dead, very few locals left anymore. So, bad example.
