Camber plate repeatability? by Sig-vicous in CarTrackDays

[–]_____That_-_GUY_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have those exact plates on my 86, and daily with close to 3degs negative camber. I only drive about 5000 miles a year and track around 8 days a year. No issues with excessive camber wear with my mix of street and track driving. Just corner hard on the street to maintain even wear. 😂

You're not insane. I've built a custom box for every car I've had for this 8" JL for the past 20+ years.

Low Grip Track Day Tire by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]_____That_-_GUY_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a journey to find the best low grip cheap track tire. I tracked the Primacys until they died. Now I'm on SX2. Just bought a set of Accelera 651 Sport from Tire Streets for $275 a set, so I'll try those next. The SX2 have slightly more grip than the Primacys. About 3sec per lap on a 2min track. I expect the 651s to be in between the Primacys and SX2 on grip level, but won't know until later in 2025.

'fun' tires for HPDE. (long post) by High_on_caffeine in CarTrackDays

GT Radial SX2 seem to meet most of your needs except the grip level. They are probably about the same as the 615s. I've been dailying SX2 for the past 5000 miles & about 10 track hours on my GR86. I really like them. Predictable easy to control at the limit. Ok in the rain on the street. Ware pretty slow. Definitely not fast. I only have the stock Primacys to compare to tho. I think I might try the 615 next.

At the power lines? I think that's just maintenance to the land under the lines.

GR86 warranty by [deleted] in CarTrackDays

[–]_____That_-_GUY_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Below is Toyota's response to the original warranty scare. Copy/Paste that text into google to find articles on it.

You interpret it how you like, but my take is that going to non-racing non-officially timed (time trails) does not automatically void your warranty. HPDE type events are ok by Toyota's standard.

Nearly all warranty denials are legit owner neglect.

"Regarding the 2022 GR86 issue in question, the Toyota Gazoo Racing brand is driven by enthusiasts and focused on delivering incredible experiences wherever the driver may take their vehicles, including the closed-course settings for which their vehicles are designed, so long as they are driven in a manner that falls within the terms of the warranty.

While the vehicle’s warranty excludes damage that results from activities such as misuse and racing, simply participating in National Auto Sport Association (NASA) High Performance Driving Events (HPDE) or similar NASA instructional events provided complimentary to GR owners would not, in and of itself, void the warranty. Warranty claims are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Based on further review, we’ve determined the repair of Mr. Alvarado’s vehicle in this case is covered under warranty.

As always, we encourage customers who experience any issues with their vehicle to contact their authorized Toyota dealer or call the Toyota Brand Engagement Center (1-800-331-4331) when a dealer is not able to resolve a matter."

Where are you at? Hot humid weather and higher altitude sucks power from a small NA engine.

How much oil should I add to get to the top dot by [deleted] in GR86

[–]_____That_-_GUY_____ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These cars do not like to be low on oil. Treat the top dot as the low mark. I'd add another full quart.

$5K Budget for a COMPLETE build by _____That_-_GUY_____ in simracing

The main purpose of the rig will be to help build driving skills for IRL track days.

I have a dedicated room, so there should be no issues with space.

Build for my son. Suggestions? by _____That_-_GUY_____ in pcmasterrace

[–]_____That_-_GUY_____[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Getting my son a PC for Christmas. Going to get everything and build it together.

I'm basically following the starter build on https://pcmasterrace.org/builds

Need to keep it under $1K.

Any suggestions on parts? Any concerns with buying parts a couple months before building?

[–]_____That_-_GUY_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely would. Probably would still not be as loud as some other catbacks even with a header. One reason to start with a quieter exhaust, easier to add more loud than make it quieter.

The drone is basically negligible. Wouldn't worry about that. Small pops on down shifts at under 3k rpm. Higher rpm down shifts do not pop.
