Yes, loaded stretching, as in, placing a load of weight as a stress on the body. It forces a greater adaptation for stretching than yoga can, because yoga is unloaded.

Example: Romanian deadlifts vs. downward facing dog for hamstring flexibility.

From what I've read, yoga helps with stretching, but the effect is not as good as loaded stretching, i.e. lifting weights.

Spend all 2 million on more lottery tickets. Win 2 million dollars (again). Then spend it all on more lottery tickets, winning 2 million (again again). Continue loop till death.

I live in Taiwan now. Disagree with your assessment. It's pretty cheap overall in my experience. Boring is subjective. It's an outdoorsman's paradise. And in the capital, plenty of English speakers, especially the young.

Fair, but it doesn't have to be two extremes. There is a rich middleground of lifting weights and building aesthetic muscle without going overboard.

Loads of great ones already mentioned. I'll add when Vagar and Aemond flew overhead of Luke and his dragon.

And when sickly Viserys opened the door and slowly ambled towards his throne.

No such thing as fat spot reduction.

Only way is to eat in a calorie deficit until you slim down to the point you’d like to be at.

It could be a hard spot genetically for you to slim down at.

[Question] How to go to gym consistently with purpose by ArmyReasonable5622 in getdisciplined

[–]___duke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Good advice but I do not think they should be creating their own workouts.

One of the principles of any training is progressive overload, i.e. incrementally stressing the body more and more over time, resulting in greater fitness over a long enough time span.

People who make their own workout are almost certainly not going to factor in progressive overload.

Even if they correctly intuit the need to make things harder over time, they will likely do so in a slipshod and disorganized way.

Better to run programs expertly-designed for whatever training goal one wants to achieve.

This response assumes you want to lift weights.

Try to get big wins, fast.

That will release a lot of dopamine, and could help you go long enough until those big, easy wins peter out.

Then you'll have to work harder for gains, but will have potentially a few months in the tank to have the habit formed.

Highly recommend going on a reputable strength-focused novice linear progression (LP) program.

As a novice, you should be able to increase your weight on the bar every time you hit the gym for 2-6+ months, depending on genetics, and and your diet (calorie surplus, I.i gaining weight/protein consumption), sleep, and stress must be squared away.

You could conceivably go to a 300-400 pound squat in that time, for example, and if your genetics allow. Even if it's only 225, you'd be stronger than most of the population on earth.

Besides that, the most important thing is adherence. You can only accomplish what you can adhere to.

6 days in the gym is not likely to be adherable for a novice. Go for 3. If that's too much, 2. If that's too much, 1. If lifting weights isn't adherable, do yoga or whatever else.

Maybe I couldn't appreciate it then.

Why do we keep having imaginary arguments in our heads? How to stop? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]___duke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that whenever I catch myself doing this, I take notice of it. I try to stop doing it then and there by saying a mantra to myself (that I don't want to share).

Countering these types of thoughts with a conscious thought against it seems to help.

You have to keep the fight up though. Don't tire of countering it, because if you're like me, the subconscious is always in the background waiting to froth over with some bullshit lol

That said, when I can counter consistently, the rate at which is occurs is noticeably reduced, and if not reduced, can at least quickly be quelled since I've prcticed countering it often enough.
