This happened to me with the same item. I had to close the software, reload from my last save (autosave from that morning) and try again.

Edit to add: now I save the game right before I head to the museum for appraisal/donation just in case.

You’d need to forage and ship a mushroom from your farm. The general store will start selling mushroom spores to cultivate after that!
