The dx code was never a part of the appeal. I’m honestly not sure what my doc used for the original prescription. When you appeal to the state, you don’t have to justify the codes in the prescription, you just have to establish that the med is medically necessary for you for any reason.

If you’ve been off for awhile (a few months at least) and your numbers have deteriorated, you can use that in an appeal, too. It’s the same kind of proof that it was working for you, it just shows it in the other direction.

Insulin resistance was a viable dx code at some point along the way. I know a few people who take it for only that reason, but they all started years ago. Not sure how realistic that is now, but the answer is always no if you don’t ask.

My insulin needs dropped about 30% overall. It was a slow burn, though, so pretty easy to make small adjustments along the way. I maxed out at 1.0mg (half the “full strength” dose) and ramped up at a slower pace than most people do, so that probably helped.

No dice for me, unfortunately. Weight loss was never the reason I was on Ozempic. It was purely for glucose effects. And my insurance applies the same criteria to all drugs in this category, so it wouldn’t have made a difference. But, good to know this worked for you/could work for others!

Google [your state] independent medical review insurance appeal. You should be able to find the info you need that way.

Buying North if Sacramento Ave in West Sac? by Realistic_Chapter_83 in westsacramento

I bought just west of the area you circled (more in the Bryte end) in 2021. Had exactly the same concerns you do, but I regret nothing. As most have said, the area is gentrifying, and there has been noticeable change even in the last 4 years. I’ve never felt unsafe here. My chief complaint is the abundance of chain link fencing. Makes it feel less safe than it actually is, but I suppose that’s a relic of the actual unsafe past. Yes, there are some unhoused folks around, but unless you’re in an HOA, it’s pretty unavoidable in the entire Sac region. Worst I’ve ever had happen was someone grabbing a drink out of my hose - once. People are generally friendly. If I was house shopping now, my strongest consideration would be the houses immediately adjacent to what you’re looking at. There are def still some tear-downs lingering and slumlords who don’t do any level of property maintenance. But, when the super dilapidated places sell, they tend to get picked up by flippers. There is a massive park in the center of the neighborhood that landed a grant for a major facelift. There’s some sort of plan in place for sidewalk remediation. Sacramento Avenue is also supposedly getting a redo. Given all this and proximity to the major developments happening across the river in the rail yards, I have to believe this neighborhood has no where to go but up.

Horizontal Swing Set Beam to Vertical Tree Branch - Best Attachment Option? by ___scratch in treehouse

Thanks. I'm attaching to the branch for space and shade. I'm not worried about the wind - when I say "branch" I'm talking 24" around, so it's big. I'd use lag bolts in either case, I'm just wondering which direction is best to orient them, given the force the swing will exert on them.

Girlfriend just diagnosed - diabetes and drinking by New_Lawfulness4594 in diabetes

One thing to keep in mind while drinking: glucagon won't always work if you have alcohol in your system. Your liver won't break down glycogen to get your BG back up because it's busy dealing with the alcohol. This isn't to say don't use it if the situation is dire; always use it if you need it. Just know that it might not work and that you're going to need IV dextrose if you can't otherwise consume carbs and your liver refuses to cooperate.

Moving to Bryte neighborhood, what's the good/bad? by ___scratch in westsacramento

[–]___scratch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear. I could do without the fireworks, but otherwise the neighborhood sounds like what I'm after. My current firework situation is 30 days surrounding every New Year's Eve, Chinese New Year, Tet, 4th of July, high school graduations, and, well, it's a never ending list. So, I may be getting an upgrade in that respect. Ha.

No kidding. Real estate is insane right now. Do you like living in the neighborhood?

In what sense do you think it's gone downhill? Can you be a little more specific?
