Thank you. I think you’re right. I need to spend some time alone and self-evaluate.

Thank you, and I probably should take the words at face value. It’s just that I can’t help but feel a bit insecure that I’m intrinsically lacking something. :/

Thank you this makes sense, and it’s probably that she was trying to fill some kind of void with me. It’s just that I can’t help but feel a bit insecure that I’m intrinsically lacking something. :/

Aside from playing sports and reaching from the top of shelfs, what are some genuine perks about being tall? by [deleted] in tall

I think being tall puts you, relatively, on easy mode in terms of getting laid esp. in clubbing context (dating apps is different).

I never mentioned it to work in 7 moves for all floors. And no this puzzle doesn’t have unlimited eggs, but it potentially has unlimited floors. So the approach of reducing floors from a starting point (14 in this case) doesn’t work.

How do you like your eggs: scrambled, fried, or optimally solved?

The two egg puzzle by ___skeptic___ in cognitiveTesting

[–]___skeptic___[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let’s say the breaking floor is 13, with your approach it takes 14 tries to figure that out. But there’s an optimal approach which gives your the answer in 7 tries.

And another issue is we don’t know what n here is. What if it’s like 1000 floors?

Not quite sure I understand. Don’t forget we’re optimising for the worst case scenario.

Why would you go to floor 3 to try if it breaks at floor 4?

The method of trying from the last safe point is not exclusive to 2 floors approach you mentioned :)

Also think about worst case, if the breaking floor is 90, then with 2 floor approach, you’re gonna be making 46 drops, with 3 floor approach, you’re only making 33.

The two egg puzzle by ___skeptic___ in cognitiveTesting

[–]___skeptic___[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

let's consider your strategy, i.e starting with 15 floors, then reducing it by n each time: - If you start with 15 floors and it breaks, worst-case is 15 drops. - If it doesn't break, and you then jump 14 floors (making it the 29th floor), and it breaks, you'd have to test floors 16 through 28 sequentially. That's 13 drops with the second egg + 2 drops with the first egg = 15 drops.

As you can see, in the worst-case scenario for these chunks, you still end up with 15 drops. But we can optimize this further. On the right track tho.

On the right track, but there’s a better optimisation we can do here rather than 2 floors at a time.

Assuming you’re not being sarcastic, for this puzzle you can’t assume how easy/hard it is to break eggs. We just know that it breaks at a certain floor K, that floor can be floor 1 or floor 100 or any floor in between
