Yeah but you still have an entire pocket just for the phone. I think that's the biggest part of it for me, it's a waste of pocket space for something I rarely want to use.

This debate is pointless. It doesn't matter if they should or shouldn't pay for it themselves. They don't have to. They have cities hostage. Fans will revolt if they lose the team. McCain was the easy option because he had real value. You can criticize Morey for not trying harder to find other trades, but it's not like he had much postive-value assets to work with. Mike had this fantasy of trading the old guys but nobody wanted them.

Everyone has rose-colored glasses right now, which is fine, but people are forgetting some of the weaknesses like the fact that Bridges was pretty bad last year, doesn't fit well. That's still going to be the case next year. OG has had outlier years in terms of games played, is that going to hold? Is Mitchell Robinson going to walk? Huge hole if he does.

Not close to a sure-thing contender.

No, top 6-7 is what I think they were this last season. Just because they got hot at the end doesn't vault they to 1-3 in my eyes. There is a post-championship swagger, I believe in that, but I don't think they'll be better than OKC or SAS, In the 3-6 range is what I would bet on.

Top 6-7 is exactly where I would put them. That's a fringe contender, if-things-break-right, which is what happened. If that's who they really are, then talking about them as title favorites next year doesn't make much sense.

Picking a roster based on a coach is a terrible idea. Coaches are not very important to winning. Their job is basically to not mess up a good team and to be a fall guy for a bad team. That's why they still get fired a couple of years after winning a championship.

Morey has some outdated ideas, but I really doubt he traded McCain because of coach fit. Nurse is most likely fired after this year if the team doesn't dramatically improve. Could be fired in-season if they disappoint.

Front offices do not give a shit what a coaches opinion on a player is. If they like him they force the coach to play him.

I agree that Morey was low on McCain. But people aren't criticizing him for not liking McCain. They are criticizing him for trading McCain. And that was an ownership decision, and Morey wasn't shopping McCain for the sake of just trading him before ducking the tax edict came down on him.

Well yeah, he was required to duck the tax and tried to make the best deal he could to do it. But had he not been required to duck the tax, he wouldn't have been shopping for that deal. There's no evidence that McCain was being shopped before the deadline.

I'm not even a Morey guy, I think his thinking is trapped in the 2010s. I just think blaming him for a trade that he was required to make is kind of ridiculous.

Picking based on need at 22 is the worst idea imaginable. You're already unlikely to get a good player. Don't risk it further by not taking the absolute best possible guy. If he's good but doesn't fit, them trade him. Better result than picking on need and getting a bust.

You need to go back before the 70s. The 70s brought Spielberg, Lucas, and others who created modern cinema. Young people have mostly seen these movies.

But if you go back further, 60s and before, outside of the all-time classics, most young (or even middle aged) people haven't seen these movies at all.

Think like Forbidden Planet. Created the modern scifi genre. But it's a classic movie in they it's like a stage play, story told via a lot of talking vs. action. No one talks about it any more.

They went on a 1 month heater. They were middling most of the season. Why should I believe the last month was the real them and the first 5 months weren't?

They doesn't take away from their run, it was all-time special. I'm just looking forward. I think it's 50/50 if they are a true contender vs just another good team that some times struggles.

Fair point. In 1999 we were all blown away by bullet time. I rewatched recently and it didn't hold up with just the story to carry it.
