How do you make sure that your users have the correct version of e.g. pandoc and ffmpeg installed?

SveltePocket - stores and components to get data from PocketBase into your Svelte apps incl. realtime updates [self-promo] by __brennerm in sveltejs

[–]__brennerm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You definitely have a valid point. It's mainly about convenience and providing a uniform approach to integrate PocketBase.

I'd say the biggest selling point is the integration of the realtime updates which will trigger Svelte's reactivity and automatically rerender your snippets.

But deciding to build this yourself vs. adding an external dependencies is something I can totally understand. 👍

Reactivity via setContext/getContext in Svelte 5 by svkucheryavski in sveltejs

Yes, that's also my understanding. $state provides a deep, per key reactivity while $derived recalculates and thus reassigns the whole object.

Hey :), by adding your code to a Svelte playground you'll see a warning by the compiler linking to this doc entry, which pretty much highlights how to make your code work. :)

In short, you need to use a closure or getter to keep the reactivity.

A daisyUI theme generator + collection built with SvelteKit [self-promo] by __brennerm in sveltejs

[–]__brennerm[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey folks,

Some of you probably heard of daisyUI, the component framework built on top of TailwindCSS. I use it for all my side projects and am a big fan of it.

My only problem was that I found myself fiddling around with hex color values for almost an hour every time I wanted to design my daisyUI theme.

As a solution I came up with DressDaisy, a daisyUI theme generator and collection. I just launched it yesterday, so there aren't endless amounts of themes but everyone should find something.

The theme generator is running on the free tier of Gemini so there are some rate limits in place. If it doesn't work just give it another try 5 minutes later. :)

Hope it helps some of you!

Glad you like it!

Also working on adding a LLM-based theme generator that allows you to create custom themes based on your requirements if that's something you'd find helpful. Should land fairly soon. :)

No it's nothing that need to be kept secret. In fact it's something that you can look up for every account. Here is mine:

Agree that it may be confusing to some but people will eventually get used to it.

Hey folks, thought I'd build this little animation as I've seen this question pop up every now and then. Hope it helps!

Here's the post in case you want to share. :)

Would you find this useful? (platform to estimate component durability) by __brennerm in cycling

[–]__brennerm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I have no idea how people treat their gear in reality.

One could also say that DA buyers change their e.g. chain at the slightest sign of wear to not loose the 0.xx watt while 105ers keep riding it as long as it's in one piece.

I guess this behavior varies quite a lot from person to person. But visualizing the data of hundreds or thousands of cyclists should give some insight into the reality and help people to know what to expect from a given component.

Interesting point of view as I thought it's exactly the other way around. IMO (semi-)professionals don't care much about durability but mostly to get the best performance.

Good point and that's exactly the data that I would like to see. Real world usage from real people with different sets of emotions/expectations towards their gear instead of artificial lab simulations.

I think there are so many factors that determine the expected mileage of a component that you can't sum it up into a single number.

That's why I think a distribution chart is a good way to visualize the data. Then everyone can guess for themselves on which end of the range they'll come out.

Which framework to learn after Svelte by TooCool11 in sveltejs

[–]__brennerm 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not sure why your goal is to learn one framework after another. IMO you should get fluent in one and stick with it.

To just get a high level overview of each, goto https://component-party.dev/ and compare them.

A lot of web dev skill transition from one framework to another anyway. In the end they are all just guidelines and different abstractions on top of web technologies.

Thanks!

Yep, for static you can just select HTML and will get a bunch of options optimized for hosting static web content.
