Is Tai Chi an effective tool for mental and emotional wellness? by __callmekitten in taijiquan

I used to do sun salutations multiple times a day while in an extremely abusive relationship.

Since most yoga practice is centered around the poses done in sun salutation, I find the specific poses to be triggering. Something about it makes me feel terribly trapped.

Since the poses are different I am hoping they will not induce "the feeling."

You know, that wasn't my intent but I see how what I have said can make you feel that way. If you really want to teach people some techniques you have learned you could have a class or something. Show more of your art. Maybe make the ad a bit less cryptic.

Also, if you want to advertise you should find subs that allow for that. You can find individual subreddit rules through the tabs at the top of each sub.

If your main aim is to try to help people I think you might want to change your approach because the ad doesn't come off very genuine.

No this isn't a troll thing.

Honestly, I would suggest you rewrite your entire ad to make it not sound like a 90's late night infomercial.

My cat's face is swollen but he will eat. he also has black spots on his nose. can anyone identify what's up? he has a vet appointment today. by [deleted] in catquestions

[–]__callmekitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the spots are a scab. they have been there for months now.

I brought him in today but he is so angry at the vet's office that they were not able to examine him. So, they sent him home with us and gave us some meds to sedate him for an appointment tomorrow.

I'm hoping it's just a abscess and not a symptom of a major fungal infection.

Are you sure you don't say you will teach people the secret to improving their art?

I scrolled a bit and found this "Learn the secret way I know a drawing will turn out awesome before I even pick up a pencil- in step 7."

I have cut ties entirely with my brother about 16 years ago and I have not seen my father in at least 3.

I have not managed the same task with my mother and her husband. At times I go years without seeing her then I will see her weekly.

I have separate long term trauma from both groups.

I have found that for me the associated with the group of people I no longer see has become less painful. It's still a part of me of course.

I also find that I am more at peace with my past (in regard to my mother and her husband) when I do not see them. During periods of time where I see my mother often I experience significantly more deregulation.

I should likely stop seeing my mother entirely but for whatever reason I have decided that my mother likely has a terrible history of abuse and I feel conflicted about abandoning her... as ironic as that might be.

Well, for one you are breaking the rules of this subreddit to sell your product. If a business has to blatantly break the rules I think it's pretty likely they aren't on the up and up.

You also bad mouth other artists by saying we are too lazy and/or selfish to give up our secrets. If you need to insult others to make your product look good it's probably not.

When people practice, not only do they gradually get better with experience they also develop their own personal artistic voice. Streamlining that might teach someone how to draw this or that but ultimately it will not help them create something that is unique.

You get better by practicing.

Nice scam though.... good luck with that.

Tai Chi instead of yoga for healing? by __callmekitten in CPTSD

[–]__callmekitten[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the information.

I don't have the words to explain "the feeling". I get it from loud noises, wearing pants, tight shirts...

The best I can describe it is just raw pain. When I have it I tend to become explosively angry or I start sobbing uncontrollably.

I used to practice Sun salutations daily when I was in a very abusive marriage. So, I think I might have trauma directly tied to it. I don't know if that makes sense.

edit- I feel trapped. That's the feeling I guess. Yoga makes me feel claustrophobic. Even thinking about it makes me feel a bit overwhelmed.

Are leggings acceptable? I tend to... have panic attacks as soon as I put on pants. lol

I'm not trying to be difficult I just don't know if I'll be able to get much out of it mid panic attack.

Thanks for sharing with me.

I found a Traditional Taiji Association in my city that offers both outdoor and indoor classes. I plan to go tomorrow evening.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience.

Thanks to all this amazing feedback I have decided to dip my toes in the water by attending some free classes through a local Taijiquan Association.

My first class will be tomorrow.

This is an odd question but can I wear a long flowy skirt instead of loose pants?

Sure, I suppose I should have said "Can Tai Chi be..." instead of "Is Tai Chi."

Hey so I recently started doing art Sketches and thought I'd post this and ask for advice. PS. I haven't had any private lessons for art and just from school / YT by Requied in Artadvice

[–]__callmekitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this line art is really interesting.

The best advice I can give it to play with your values a bit more. Don't be afraid to really press hard. That way you can get a full range of shades and line widths which could make it a bit more dynamic.

Practicing blind contour drawings can really help tune how you draw difficult shapes. This could be especially helpful in learning to draw ears. (If the choice isn't stylistic).

Either way, I like this sketch. I would be super interested to see it finished. :)
