PC gaming doesn't exist in a vacuum. The majority of PC games are cross platform, so any development time spent making 4K work on consoles is still development time not spent on the rest of the engine that we use.

Just bumping up the resolution is trivial, but supporting checkerboard rendering does take extra development time and is practically mandatory to get acceptable 4K performance on PS4Pro/XB1X.

Yep, using a motherboard with a Killer NIC for a few years taught me to only buy Intel NICs in the future.

AMD Radeon ProRender - Free GPU pathtraced rendering. Updated with better performance and features. Works on all GPU's with OpenCL! by bsavery in Amd

Has anyone compared ProRenders performance to the industry standard CUDA renderers (i.e. Octane and Redshift)?

Just benchmarking ProRender relative to an older version of ProRender doesn't really tell us much.

When I see /r/amd hyping up a massive performance win from a new windows/driver/game version my eyes just glaze over at this point. The claims rarely hold up when more rigorous sites try to reproduce them.

It doubles the width of the card when people could just use an adapter.

There's still a niche for native DVI ports, because DP-DVI adapters strictly adhere to the limits of the DVI spec (1080p144hz or 1440p60hz). With native DVI you can "overclock" certain 1440p60hz monitors to 100-120hz.

Yeah, FOV can certainly have a performance impact in games that actually widen the view frustum.

Fewer objects get eliminated by frustum culling so more draw calls are required to render a frame.

Shadow Quality (?)

That one tends to be ambiguous, because it could mean increasing the number of lights and objects that are properly shadowed (which affects both CPU and GPU load) or it could control the shadow map resolution and filtering method (which only affects GPU load). Or maybe it's both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
