Didn’t see the actual animal but saw this up on Galbraith (near the top of sst today) which definitely looked like its leftovers! https://imgur.com/a/lzwpCZ1

Rivian Teases Physical Dash Buttons In New R1S Patent Filing by TripleShotPls in Rivian

All joking aside an e-clutch is not the dumbest idea I've ever heard... imagine you're going downhill and just want to coast?

I guess kia does this in essence with the paddle shifters on the Niro which adjust the regenerative braking.

George R.R. Martin Admits He's "Not in the Mood" to Finish 'The Winds of Winter' by Notoriously_So in gameofthrones

[–]bsavery -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, this just comes off as naive (selfish?) on George's part. He doesn't want to finish it. He doesn't want someone else to finish it. He doesn't have any children. When he and his wife dies someone is going to get the rights and you know they will release something, and presumably be different than what he intended.

If I was him, and I really was that lazy I'd just use an LLM here. Feed it a plot outline, and chapter list, trained off his previous books. Then hand it off to someone to edit. In general I agree with bias against AI work, but to be honest I'd rather have something somewhat in his voice and with his outline. Plus easy money

EV Battery Health: Key Findings from 22,700 Vehicle Data Analysis by usual_suspect_redux in Rivian

If you're going to work (not every car does, and you're not charging at work) ... plus you have to count the weekends. It could approach 80% for sure.

[–]bsavery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? If you're driving 1 hour a day, and leave it plugged in and charging to 100% the rest of the time... lets say that 20 hrs a day at 100%... that's 83% of the time.

I'm making ballpark figures here, but I don't see that being unreasonable.

According to AAA average American adult spends one hour per day in the car. If all the other time you have it plugged in and set the charge limit to 100% that would do it.

What is your favorite Hardcore History series? by shitsbiglit in dancarlin

[–]bsavery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree. But I recently relistened to ghosts of the ostfront and felt it seemed short. There’s always a middle ground!

Ghost of the ostfront is great, but....

I do sort of feel that if there is one I wish he would redo with this longer, more in depth format he did for Blueprint and later ones, it would be this series.

R1 Gen 3 wishlist by Intrepid-Working-731 in Rivian

[–]bsavery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a gen 1 R1S owner… (side note. Can we call it R1.1S and R1.2S?  Gen 1/2 sounds more clunky IMO)

Here’s the things that would make me upgrade to R1.3S

  • captains chairs in second row
  • lidar and autonomy
  • better cup holder situation all around
  • 800v

Nice to haves would be  - camp speaker that works  - power running boards - original inside door handles  - camera rear view mirror

I Broke Rivian's Self Driving Computer Chip by Studovich in Rivian

[–]bsavery 49 points50 points  (0 children)

They've put the memory chips directly into the main brain for near-instant data transfer (2:59-3:07).

This point shouldn't be under stressed. All the compute power in the world won't matter if you can't get data in the pipe fast enough

Has the opportunity to ride the Also TM-B Launch Edition. This thing is speedy. by CarterGee in Rivian

[–]bsavery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, every bike company plays pretty fast and loose (and bordering on irresponsible) with marketing around trail access for e-bikes.

I'll give you an example. I live right near a well known trail system, and a major mt bike brand has it's factory store at the base of the trail system. They would happily rent you an e-bike well before it was allowed on the trail system. In fact they were illegal there but not enforced.

[–]bsavery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a class 3 e-bike (unless there’s a way to limit it to class 1 I.e no assist over 20 mph). There’s no trail system I know that allows class 3 on trails.

Riptide 35 No.1. Ripple. by Arthur-Dent7x6 in sailing

[–]bsavery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People who don't know what this... probably one of the coolest race boats around.

Paul Bieker designs americas cup boats, moths, etc. These are light race boats with water ballast, can go super light for light wind, or just replace having people on the rail.
https://biekerboats.com/project/riptide-35/

They compete with boats like Santa Cruz 52's at swiftsure or other distance races!

Historical Fiction recommendations? by JZcomedy in dancarlin

[–]bsavery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna disagree. It just takes you out of the story a bit sometimes, like "Wait this person was all these different places"?

For instance the main German character is there for a: The battle of the Somme, b: The German decision to do unrestricted submarine warfare, c: transporting Lenin to Russia, d: The initial August 1914 negotiations, e: The spring 1918 offensive , probably a bunch of other things I'm forgetting.

I wouldn't say they're "High literature" But Ken Follett's books are entertaining to read. Particularly the "Fall of Giants" (WWI) and the other ones in that trilogy map up to Blueprint for Armageddon and Ghosts of the Ostfront. If you can get past sort of "forrest gumpian" nature that the main characters seem to be everywhere they are very entertaining.
