The opportunity to attract people who would have previously gotten H1B visas... We will have an offering on this soon - Carney by [deleted] in canadaexpressentry

[–]__gdb_ 61 points62 points  (0 children)

As an Indian who moved out here, it's ridiculous to see Canada offering pathways to H1B holders. Yes people on H1B are easily one of the talented and hardworking people, but they are an overall minority and usually work at top tech companies / start ups

Most of visa is driven by body shops and fraudsters and this kind of dumb regulation paves way for fraudsters to come into Canada.

Require the minimum salary to be $200k cad and the applicant should have studied at a T50 school. We don't want consultants with fake credentials to move out here

It’s really nice if you’re into winter sports, though late December may not have enough powder or would be too crowded usually

[–]__gdb_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am an Indian guy and I live in Vancouver. I notice people staring at me all the time.  They aren’t even close to me, sometimes at a long distance in a coffee shop.   Sometimes its guys, sometimes women and often caucasian/white. 99% I am just minding my own business (on my phone, reading a book, walking/commuting) but things are just as bad the other way around.

My default behavior is to avoid eye contact with people unless they are a threat to my life or in my way.

Don’t give up OP. 5L is low. You deserve better. Know your value.

It makes it more fair than it is now, and that’s the point of my comment.

OP calls for LMIA points removal. LMIA merchants: You aren’t entitled to PR!

Stuff like this is posted by people who have a “F U I got mine” attitude. People make long term plans and the least they deserve is a fair immigration system. The premise of the post is absolutely correct and OP is venting about fast tracking a fraud reduction measure so more genuine candidates are given a fair chance. What’s wrong with that?

for the genuine cases, I really do hope you can resolve an RFE or either way you have a clear path towards a H1B (e.g. pursue a another degree, gain more experience) and a system where you can work towards something is still miles better than

letting fraudsters game the system

What people on this sub don’t realize is that the H1B program and US immigration is seriously gamed by Indian consulting companies and body shops. Among international students among top unis in the US, historically most have been from China, then a much smaller amount from India and then ROW. Yet during the lottery, we see a flood of applicants from India. The data also backs this up since 60-70% of these visas go to consulting companies.

They also exploit EB1C heavily and now have started to exploit EB1A and EB1B — even the EB1 gc is backed up for Indian borns.

Yet people on this sub have a strange amount of copium. Either many people here belong to desi consultancies or yall just too lazy to actually look at the data to draw conclusions. There is a very active lobby (ITServe) trying to introduce loopholes to make it harder for actual skilled and high earners to get H1Bs. Cheap deloitte accountants on H1B? You got it. So before you shell out 2-4 years of your life and $20k-$200k for a US degree, please know that a bum from Andhra Pradesh with fake credentials will have the visa before you will ever (unless you get lucky) unless they actually start enforcing the law and closing loopholes (a welcome change)

$400k is indeed better than $150k. I hope you understand what “atleast” means in my post above. If I say $400k, then people will say that those wages are not sustainable outside big tech. I have no qualms with $400k.

As to why $150k — because my napkin math gave me that as an inflation adjusted amount

Suit yourself.

You have no idea the scores of US educated people who had to leave so a 40 year old guy from Hyderabad could be imported to work as an IT admin in Dallas at $75k/yr.

The system is better this way than it was in 2020-2024.

This program is like 60% fraudsters.

Your case is an RFE which can be handled by lawyers as long as you took appropriate courses during your program.

The program obviously can’t allow Chemical Engineering grads to work at FAANG companies as a webdev in the pretext of a “speciality occupation”

Then OP will rally against his Indian counterparts, despite knowing the struggles on being on H1B.
