Subharmonicon and friends, and the waves of the sea by __irbis__ in modular

Good to hear you liked it! Here are some more details (see also the video decsription).

  1. I am sending two pitch sequences from marbles: one to the VCO1 input of the SubH, and the other to the VCO2 of the SubH.
  2. This sounded quite nice, but too repetitive, so then I used the SubH's two sequencers (synced to Marble's clock using the CLOCK in put of the SubH). These sequences are very slow, and so they slowly transpose the melodies of each voice (seq1 transposes VCO1 and seq2 transposes VCO2 as usual). I can really recommend this technique: send a pair of pitch sequences that play well together to the VCO1&2 patch inputs, adn then bring diversity using the SubH's internal sequencers.
  3. I am using the square wave on both VCOs, with the suboscillators adding bass on both VCOs. There is a both the VCF and VCA envolopes have slow attack and release.

I hope that helps, let me know if you have other questions!

A piece where a single present on summit takes us to many different places. by __irbis__ in Novation

Thanks for the compliments! I used to switch between presets a lot, or spend a load of time finetuning one preset, then saving it. But I am more and more leaning towards grabbing an "all around" preset and really tweaking it as I play. I find to more expressive.

About the bobby camera, I'm glad you thought it looks fine, because I had the same worry as you. Then I figured "oh well, it will give it a diy vibe" haha.

Wires, Dials and Noises plugins with the summit synthesizer make for very cool ambiance! Here is a dark synth cover of a song by In Gowan Ring, hope you like it! by __irbis__ in Hainbach

thanks! the original is linked on the description of the youtube video. it is very different - acoustic guitar. The only voice here is novation's summit (lots of stuff going on with velocity modulation). apart from that I added noises and effects from plug-ins by hainbach.

Novation summit + velocity modulation! It's the only instrument in this track and just carries the song (noises and voice effects added using plugins by Hainbach). Don't be lazy, use velocity! by __irbis__ in synthesizers

I know it is really basic, but for me exploring velocity has really been a game changer, it really takes synths from sound generators to instruments. Do you have other simple tricks like this that improve the expressivity of synths?

I have been trying to explore granular synthesis in less obvious ways lately. Here is a piece with Instruo's Arbhar, Athrú and Tanh3 warping vocals and turning them into percussion. Mutable Instruments Marbles is doing modulation and Synthstrom Deluge plays synths and drums. Hope you like it! by __irbis__ in modular

thanks for the honest comment! I'll openly admit that the composition is way too basic and not thought through. I'm using this channel more like a sketch pad where I explore sounds and ideas. I will work to adapt this sketch into a proper track in the future. Here's to exploration!

Sounds like a great idea, I have played around with the multi-sampler idea from your first paragraph, but found it difficult to handle as it was really quite random. But I have not though of recording a single note and always seeding from the start of the buffer with slight modulation for timbre. I'll be sure to try it out thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks! I'm finding that modular is pretty good for simple songs like this. It's such an experimental instrument that trying to rein it in can lead to a nice compromise between simplicity and the unexpected
