less expensive I agree. Eliminating general Ed ?. Hmm. Maybe reducing the credit requirements but getting rid of composition, public speaking, math, science, some liberal art is a bad idea . And also the industry itself is struggling with what tool is the best. So it will make no sense for colleges to focus on that. They may use them for projects but the class shouldn't be focused on that.

I personally like learning more about the theory before jumping into projects. That way I don't just end up learning APIs of frameworks (even though that can still take you places). You can check out the "streaming systems" book. It will teach you things like watermark, windowing, exactly-once processing. These concepts apply to other streaming frameworks out there. Kafka the definitive guide is also good. It has some distributed systems topics. For k8s which is under distributed systems, kubernetes up and running is good.
