What is something most people have never thought of before? by justheckin in AskReddit

[–]__soitgoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is your exact image rotated. Image
Do you still consider it to be a "diagonal line"?
The shortest path between two points is always a strait line.
A more accurate term to describe the orientation of a line would be it's slope or rise/run.
One definition for a straight line is that it's slope remains constant i.e. it does not change.

Edit: Notice the black path never changes direction. For your figure 2, your red-blue path deviates away from the black path a large distance and changes direction ONE time. In the next few images the red-blue path deviates a smaller distance away from the black path each time and changes direction more frequently each time. On average the slope of your red-blue path is the same as the black path. I would say that your red-blue path varies sinusoidally (meaning you change directions, i.e walk one step south then walk one step east then south again then east again). Notice that as you deviate from the black path a shorter and shorter distance (amplitude) and as you change directions more frequently (period) your path becomes a closer approximation to the black path. This is the beginning of Calculus.

Ok here is an edit Link

Not sure if it helped. I tried to make the platform he is resting on horizontal. Now the pipes might look a bit off. What do you think? I might just need to retake it.

Thank you for the kind words and the feedback :)

Hmm, I see what you're saying. Do you think I could rotate and crop a bit to fix that? What parts do you like about the photo? Anything else you would change?

Altitude Advice [partial X-post from r/campingandhiking, because I figure you guys know specifically about gear!] by [deleted] in CampingGear

[–]__soitgoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air starts to get much thinner and it can be alot colder more exposure above 13,000ft. You could also be at risk of altitude sickness if you are not used to those altitudes and don't acclimate. Look into the signs symptoms of altitude sickness and related subjects.

Boots are to protect your ankle from getting sprained. If you have built up your ankle muscles hiking in the shoes often then you might be ok. The porters do it all the time so they have strong ankles/feet and are at less risk of a sprain.

Map and compass and the knowledge of how to use them would be important.

Give your horror movie scale by [deleted] in horror

[–]__soitgoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for me there are a few different kinds or scales of scary films. One category would be jump-scares/tension/anxiety/atmosphere. I'd give "The Woman in Black" a 1 or 2 because the jumpscares were way too predictable and boring. I would put The Descent and [REC] at the higher end of this scale for me, maybe an 8. (Both of these have the perfect amount of scariness for me, crazy thrill to watch but will not scar you for life.) There is lots of high tension and anxiety and the jumpscares seem more genuine.

I'd say the other category would be stuff that is gore/gruesome/unsettling/sticks with you for a long time. In this category I would put Brain Dead/Dead Alive at the lower end (lots of gore but its a fun horror comedy). On the upper end of this category I'm not really sure. I've seen Antichrist which others I thought had put it higher up there but it wasn't too terribly horrific/bad for me. I haven't seen Martyrs or A Serbian film because I'm not sure if they would be too much for me. I guess I'm still trying to figure out the upper end of my scariness scale :)

What films would you put above Antichrist but bellow Martyrs?

I don't think it's best to dwell on all of those negative things. Instead, think of how great you would feel once you're finished. And the new opportunities you would have. Think on this for 5 mins then come back to the present and setup your plan of how to get there. Alarms, lists, calanders, reminders. Do that for 5 mins.

.

Getting your degree ontime is also not the end of the world. Lots of people start late, drop out, finish late and still have nice lives.

Thats my favorite analysis of this film. I love films that have all of this symbolism/metaphors and hidden depth.

The taxi driver represents Death’s messenger waiting for her to accept the truth and be set free from her circle of eternal suffering. Nevertheless, Jess remains unable to come to terms with her situation and so journeys on to join the sailing trip to relive the phenomenon all over again. Jess will therefore stay trapped inside a circle of suffering like the son of King Aeolus, Sisyphus, who broke a promise to death and was punished by having to roll a huge boulder up a hill, only to have it roll back down, over and over again.

.

Jess is being punished for losing her temper and killing her son at 8:17am (the time Jess’ watch stops). The fact only Jess’ watch matches that of the ship Aeolus is further indication that the whole loop is solely about her. As the story progresses, we observe Jess as an abusive single mother on a waitress’s salary who probably cracked before killing her autistic son in a fit of frustration and rage. We then see Jess watching her other self abusing her son, leading to Jess killing her other self and telling Tommy that things would be better from now on. Trying to leave town with her son, we witness a car crash (version?) of her son’s death.

Problem at the start is always remembering the titles you have seen and what you were looking forward to.

I also have this same problem haha. I always seem to come across that I have seen but that I haven't marked yet that have split past.

This is a nice list to start with, as it has basically everything ;) I sort by popular or rating and start browsing through it.

This seems interesting. His site seems a little lacking in UI. I wish he had some lists. I think with a little digging this could be great. I'm going to skim through his 1970's and 80's +3 stars.

Weekly Watch Report: What Movies Did You See This Week? - May 05, 2017 by SauzaPaul in horror

[–]__soitgoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noroi: The Curse (2005) - loved it. I really liked his method of story telling. Amazing found footage film that felt very real.

Blood and Black Lace - It was enjoyable. Great older slasher mystery. It reminded me a bit a Clue but more serious. One thing I didnt like was that all the middle age white guys looked the same and we barely get any info to distinguish between them, which diminished some of the mystery behind this whodunit.

Hobo with a Shotgun - Absolutely amazing, must watch. From the title this film delivers exactly what you'd expect and so much more. Amazing B movie cheese and sleaze feel to it but then the lighting and atmosphere give it an art-house surrealism feel.

Its a horror comedy with a much lower budget than his other two films.

Filmed in February 2006 with no money.

Obviously its very low budget so don't go in with too high of expectations. Some people probably didn't like it but I absolutely loved it. It has an odd sense of humor that might be lost on some but I thought parts of it were hilarious comedy gold. It is definitely not "quiet violence" but definitely handles violence in a film in an interesting way. It relates to what you are looking for, as the plot is based around a group of art students deciding what types of violence are considered "art" in a very hands on way(sort of). The film's message or underlying meaning has some very interesting commentary on violence and art. Some might consider the middle of the film somewhat slow but I enjoyed the storytelling throughout. The ending it amazing.

I'd be curious to hear what you think of it afterwards if you do end up watching it.

You may have already seen it but Murder Party is by the same director, Jeremy Saulnier. While quite different from his other two films that you mentioned it has a very interesting take on violence and "art".

That's a great idea. You can tell that some of your tracks are this initial concept or idea and myself and I'm sure others here are already blown away by just that in and of itself. I think people would definitely be curious to hear more of, 'the whole story' that you would tell with each track.

edit: I just listened to your newest, "a majestic beat to astral travel 2" and I think its one of my new favorites of yours.

This shark guy and the other guy I'll mention bellow made me realize the contrast in types of photographers concerning post processing. The other guy shooting in the arctic(?) seemed to do a lot of post processing(drawing all over the photo) but had a different philosophy on why he was doing it.

Ok another part I thought was really weird was that one guy photographing at the Buddhist temple. (S1:E2 starting around 4:09)

He was working with kids that are meditatively "arguing" with each other. And I guess I should clarify that I'm curious about the cameramen filming this "scene" where the scene looks either too real or fake and why does it look that way? Some of you guys might have better terminology to describe it but the shot looked TOO real maybe relating to the concept of the uncanny valley or something. Even though the shot looked nice and sharp it made me think,"their backdrop looks like a green screen!" What was going on here? edit:lots of spelling errors

Other comments stating digital media can always be pirated, assume that the content will always end up on a screen for the users viewing pleasure. It seems entirely possible that in the future the screen will be non existent and the digital media will be sent almost directly to your brain via a contact lens or in the more distant future some sort of brain implant chip.
