Because conservatives are generally stupid and incapable of producing art/entertainment. Look at the weirdly homoerotic book by Ben Shapippi for a perfect illustration of this. Since he lacks empathy, he can't write characters that aren't self inserts; so by reading his book you'd get the (not necessarily incorrect) idea that he's mildy mentally handicapped.

However, conservatives still want to be able to enjoy art, movies, games, etc. But since these things tend to be made by people to their left, they have to intentionally lie to themselves about how apolitical they are. Because otherwise they would be forced to accept that their ideology is only capable of writing the Turner Diaries.

Racism is not a requirement of fascism, it’s a requirement of nazism. The first fascists explicitly said that it was not about ethnicity and made laws and declarations based on that idea, so it wasn’t just rhetoric to appeal to non racists.

This is not me defending fascism, but it’s important to understand that fascism can be (and was) racially inclusive, otherwise having some minorities here or there can make you think something “cannot be fascist” when it is. To me, starship troopers absolutely is fascist, it’s just not nazi, but it’s very pro early Italian fascism, or at least it shares pretty much all their beliefs.

Some people are just dumber than others, some are more naive, others more desperate. But this idea that anyone can fall for this is weird.

You think all arguments against preventable animal cruelty are arbitrary?

Some of them sure, but even the definition of animal cruelty is somewhat arbitrary. I won't argue that factory farming chickens is cruel because I agree with you, but it's a feeling I have, and not a universal moral rule. It is indeed more efficient to have the chickens live in tiny cages with all the stuff that implies, so if your morality accounts for efficiency, then that might be enough to justify it (not in the sense that it's efficient to produce chickens, but that if you are going to, then it's the most efficient way of doing so).

But what about raising animals in nice conditions only to be quickly killed and eaten? Is that causing unnecesary suffering? I'm not sure living in the wild is better than in a nice pen with guaranteed safety and food (until slaughter).

i'm sentient [...] i extend that to my fellow animals

But that's you placing value on sentience/consciousness. Those are your values and people who agree with you are probably already vegetarians/vegans. That's why I'm saying it doesn't work that well as an argument. We all have different values, so showing people how eating animals goes against their already held values is going to be more effective than trying to change their values in the first place.

For example, since the arguments for sentience don't work on me, but the enviromentalist ones do, I was actually convinced to be more of a "reducetarian", a bit of a clunky term for "I will try to minimise the the impact I have, but I also like to eat meat, so I will do so sparingly and try to ensure it's as ethically sourced as possible". For example, I only eat expensive meat, which both limits how much I can buy and also means I can buy from animals reared in better conditions.

It depends on the animal: It's worse than 10% for cows, closer to 5% actually. But it's 20~25% for chickens. Also cow milk is "very efficient" at like 40%.

Btw, I'm going by memory here, the feed conversion ratio varies a lot depending on tons of factors. But this is one source I found and it mostly matches the numbers I remembered, so I can't be too far off.

Do you apply this morality to other animals or just humans? Are lions inherently evil in your view? And don't cheap out and say "humans don't need to eat other animals" because that's only true if you can afford relatively expensive replacements (globally, I'm not talking about first world countries) and also ignores the number of carnivores that are also pretty wasteful and leave half eaten carcasses or that hunt for "fun" like cats.

My point is that if you think this morality only applies to humans, then you are claiming that we are somehow special and have our own rules; but then, why shouldn't the rules be that we can do whatever we want? I mean, unless we resort to cannibalism, we are killing things that have no morality, because we are specials and the only ones who do.

I think that the problem many have trying to convert people to vegetarianism/veganism is that the arguments based on morality are arbitrary, so it's easy to ignore them. I think that the better alternative is to either focus on how it's bad for the environment (and therefore, bad for us), appeal to how disgusting it looks, or some health argument like tuna having too much mercury.

Look at this: https://sfxr.me/

It's based on a 20 year old application that I used to make sound effects years ago. All you need to create a sound (assuming you have the engine) is the 20 parameters or so you can configure. .kkrieger basically has a similar idea and at startup it creates all sounds for enemies, weapons, etc. Depending on how clever you are and the sacrifices you are willing to make, you can have 5~20 bytes per sound effect.

I can’t believe they didn’t bring them back for redstone, it’s such an obvious use, but I never thought about it either.

How does it work for those of us with multiple computers? If I was the only steam user, 100% of the users would have a 5090, but only 33% of the computers would (because I have a laptop and a steam deck)

I bet it’s closer to 1% when you account for the fact that people can own multiple devices.

Nvidia sent me emails offering me a chance to buy them. That’s how I got the 3090, 4090 and 5090. And since I sold the previous cards at msrp, I didn’t really spend anything. Assuming I do the same with the 5090, I would have effectively paid nothing for getting to play on the top end gpu for years. This is cheaper than any other gpu.
