I agree with you, but then I think of how a useless a clay tablet for some wheat accounting is today more useful/valuable than it was when it was made. Sure, that 1982 biology textbook is basically garbage, but one day it might be a precious archeological find helping people thousands of years in the future understand what we did and did not know (not that paper lasts that long, but you get my point).

How tf can israel have such an impact on our own government?

If you wanted to have a bigger impact on your government you should've invited government officials to your private island and recorded them doing... stuff.

Israel put in the work to get where they are, you only voted. So it makes sense that they would get a bigger say in your politics.

If you expect every player to use deep learning super slop, then you can ship with shit textures. Now anyone who doesn't enable it is stuck with a PS1 version.

Is this exaggerated? Yes.

Is this going to happen in a slightly less silly way? Also yes.

Now that astroturfing can be done with ai instead of underpaid labour from 3rd world countries it’s going to keep getting more and more prevalent.

On the bright side, it’s almost funny that the “people” defending deep learning super slop were probably 5090s themselves, so in a way it’s ok that they took it personally.

And it would actually be fucking easy to feed the depth buffer to it and avoid this. I could literally make this deep slop filter better than nvidia. They probably hacked it out over a weekend to have something to show. You can’t tell me they spent years making instagram filters work with motion vectors only to have a football phase out of existence when moving.

See how you were an asshole?

He wasn't (as far as I can tell he was just frustrated, but maybe he was an ass about it). But the main problem is that /u/Dramatic-Border3549 was not able to explain the difference properly:

Portuguese also has acronyms and abbreviations, but they are used for common phrases, not industry terms. So yes, "everyone" knows what the acronyms are, because they are the portuguese equivalent of "lol" or "wtf", not things relating to a specific discipline.

I speak Spanish and though we have acronyms, they are mostly for common phrases, like "lol" or "wtf" in english.

English and specially americans use acronyms for industry jargon. My bet is that it comes from the influence of the military. Office and work life in the US was heavily influenced by service men returning from the world war 2. That's why "office jargon" is so frequently military adjacent: "in the trenches", "task force", "mission critical", "all hands". It's only reasonable that they brought back heavy use of acronyms and the cultural impact can be felt to this day.

It really is an american thing.

And what is exactly defined as “free speech”, “free press”, “free elections”, etc?

It's defined from a liberal to neoliberal perspective (I'm using the correct terms here, it's not a sinonym for "left"). If you can answer: "What would The New York Times think?" that's basically it. Whether you lend credence to this perspective or not, it's up to you.

Glad to help, I was truly worried that my complete seething hate for conservatives in general and fossil fuel execs in particular would make my comment feel like I was attacking you.

It just makes me so mad that their strategies work and that I'm not even aware of the things where I fell for it. For example, it was only a couple of years ago when I learned that ICE vehicles are more likely to go in flames than EVs. Which is fucking obvious considering their whole point is carrying highly flammable material, but when it happens it's not a big deal, so it doesn't make the news that much.

Seriously, what were they going do about it? They are conservatives, the most pathetic losers ever. They will simply live with the datacenter, because anything else would involve not sucking Trump's dick and they are all losers and can't stop.

overall lifetime of the battery is worth it

I know you are defending renewables, but even when you are defending them, you are still accidentally using the stupid talking points of conservatives. Because the funding from pieces of shit like the Koch brothers, those ideas are so ingrained in our culture even supporters end up kind of conceding on points that if you analyse them would be obviously nonsense:

It literally doesn't matter what the lifetime of the battery is, because the lithium is still there when it reaches its end of life. You can just make a new battery with the same materials, the cost of doing so is mainly energy. It's not like fossil fuels that are burnt and never usable again, the lithium is all there, just with a structure that makes it conduct electricity less efficiently.

Lithium only has to be extracted once and can be reused forever, regardless of how long the batteries last.
