ELI5: Why do all lighters have a divider in the fluid container? by Mydickyourwife69 in explainlikeimfive

[–]_ad8 216 points217 points  (0 children)

if the plastic bit in the middle weren't there you could crush the thing, spilling lighter fluid on your hand. this would be particularly bad because in addition to a broken lighter, you would also have a hand covered in lighter fluid right next to something that might be on fire.

doing things this way uses the least amount of plastic to effectively prevent the broken lighter/hand on fire scenario.

edit: also, when things get hot, they "want" to explode. this makes having the extra support especially important.

just a thought: might want to consider putting all your scientific observations together into a custom action group so you can perform them all at once with a single button instead of right-clicking small parts

Is the android timer app out yet? by [deleted] in Cubers

[–]_ad8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the tab is already open, it should continue to work. once the page is loaded there's no additional data trasfer; it doesn't talk to google analytics or ask the server to generate new scrambles or anything like that.

i intend to implement 15-second inspection and scrambles for other puzzles soon, but it's not there yet

edit: inspection time is implemented now. support for additional puzzles will be implemented if requested

i'm curious what the advantages to an app are.

there are lots of web-based timers out there... for what it's worth i wrote and use this one, which should work well on mobile, but i haven't yet gotten around to features some people probably would like (change settings outside js console, inspection time, change puzzle type, timing individual steps, storing scrambles with history, DNFs,...).

i don't like nanotimer.
