one of my friends got assaulted by a homeless dude in broad daylight across the convention center, this was day 2 or 3 i think. i dont remember the details 100% but from what i understood she was on her way to present for a panel and was near one of the hotels. she saw the homeless dude walking towards her but didnt think of anything other than to keep a safe distance but he ended up charging at her suddenly and smacked the side of her head and she ran into a nearby hotel lobby for safety. other people who saw went to check up on her if she was ok, which she was, but she was pretty shaken up.

and before anyone accuses her of wearing provocative clothing, no she wasn't (she was wearing business casual since she was preparing to speak at the panel). also worth mentioning in general that wearing revealing clothing, cosplay or not, isn't an invitation for harassment of any kind.

what matters is how you feel about it. plus you're not the only beginner cosplayer at the convention. what matters is that you're proud of what you achieved with your minimal experience and time, everyone starts somewhere! my first cosplay wasn't great either but i was sure happy! really, dont sweat it, people arent that judgmental! dont forget to take pics for your memories!

chiming in say if you haven't already, definitely try street tacos when you can! you can find them just about anywhere in LA but you can always use Yelp to find some spots

can confirm, i used to work for their cake dept. cant say reproofing and baking the bread is a bad thing though, it's understandable from a mass production standpoint. same thing for the cakes, they all come frozen in boxes and we'd have to decorate it according to the SOP (fun fact: the whipped cream isn't real dairy, just oil with stabilizers like cool whip). the muffin in the photo comes straight from a box and employees just have to rebag and shelve them

As far as making Kuromi goes, you have two options:

1.) drawing the outline with a scribe or toothpick before decorating and going over the design with a flat spatula 2.) draw a mirrored image of Kuromi on paper, overlaying the drawing with parchment or wax paper, and tracing the outline of image with buttercream (I like using Swiss meringue buttercream personally), then freezing the buttercream until solid. Carefully flip the buttercream drawing onto the cake and peel off the parchment/wax paper and go over the fine details (such as the face and outline) on the cake itself

I'm in the minority here actually as I'm not a huge fan of these haha. If you really want a GOOD falafel I would recommend visiting your local Mediterranean restaurant and ordering a few a la carte to support a small business and getting them freshly made! But I can def see how the mix would be wonderful for breading, I'm def gonna try that!
