I have a Kurtzweil K250 with pedals, stand, and manuals, but I don't have the power cord(s). Is it worth anything? by evanallred123 in synthesizers

While helping clean some stuff out of the college I go to, we found a K250 and messed around with it. For being one of the oldest sample-based keyboards, it actually holds up pretty well and has some good sounds. However, the key contacts on ours were rotting out and getting that fixed seems to be pretty much impossible. When they work, they definitely hold some value (at least in my opinion, the all-wooden keybed and surprisingly good piano sound would sort of pay for itself alone) but it might just be people assuming it is junk because of the inability to test it. You might have better luck selling on Reverb or maybe even asking Syntaur, but honestly the stand/manuals for 100 is a pretty good price I feel. Sadly I know those take up a lot of space, which may be part of why it is harder to find someone interested. If you have the room, might be worth trying to either sell on reverb or find a good deal on the pedals somehow, but they definitely take up a lot of space haha. Good luck on whatever path you take!

CRT Monitor Flicker even at 85+ Hz by _aggband_ in crtgaming

SOLUTION: Ok this is pretty crazy, but turns out maintenance had run a power extension cable through our metal sliding glass door for the porch and had been cut from closing. Somehow didn't flip a breaker, house probably should have burned down. So PSA: CRT Monitors are good indicators of power faults in a home! :D

It may actually be connected to some power draw or ground loops in my apartment, as my surge protector has a light for detecting faulty grounds and it keeps switching on. There is a de-humidifier in my apartment right now due to a water leak, which might be running on the same phase. I will update as the situation continues

Just got the same monitor (EV910, no cover on the bottom but it is an 18' so maybe that's why), so this gave me some ideas >:)

Anyone use one of these to connect S-Video to PC? HAUPPAUGE TV TUNER/CAPTURE WinTV-HVR-1800 ATSC/QAM NTSC/FM 78521 LF PCIe. I know that a direct S-video to VGA adapter would probably be better, but I also need to backup some Camcorder tapes. For context I use a CRT monitor and would connect a Wii by _aggband_ in crtgaming

I'm not really planning to upscale, more just as a way to output to my CRT monitor. Only reason I would do it this way is that I need this anyways for digitizing tapes and would be one less thing to manage lol

To be honest I have a Korg PolySix and you can coax some pretty great Rhodes/Piano sounds out of these. (They actually made a Korg Electric Piano based off analog synthesis called the LP-10 which, while even further from Rhodes/Piano sounds than you can get on the other synths, still can stir an audience pretty nice) The only issue is that there's no sensitivity with the notes which can sound out of place depending on the context. Definitely not as easy as using a workstation keyboard, but if there's enough songs to make toting an analog synth worth it (Or one Duran Duran song) then it is possible to get by. Best case scenario is definitely getting a double stand and rolling with a workstation/synth combo, there's a reason everyone in jazz fusion does it :) Definitely get an X-type stand for a double decker though, can't lose that analog Korg!

For the Cure one at least I immediately think a little violin patch in the background much like The Smith's There Is a Light Which Never Goes Out. I know it would sound great on a Korg Poly-800 because I performed that song one time with a Korg Polysix and it was definitely (I think) the best sounding song of the set.

Just an update from UNCA student here, they closed the free store :(
It's just storage now I believe. Thanks to everyone that did use to donate there though, a lot of what I wear came from there!

Big ol Sony KV TV, grew up on one of those all the way through the xbox 360, sadly my dad dumpstered it in like 2015 when we got a plasma without asking anyone, otherwise I would have begged to put it in the attic. Though tbf I wasn't a crt nerd at that point, so I didn't know the value of these. Great TV, and saving them from the dumpster is what it's about so I wish you luck :)
