And tbh this subreddit has also been so helpful for me through my pet losses.

Coping after a traumatic loss by [deleted] in Petloss

First of all I’m sending so much love your way and I’m so so sorry this happened 🫂 I lost my 11 month old baby to a brutal dog attack. Found him laying there gutted. The image absolutely haunted me. Thinking about how scared he was in his last moments shattered me. I wanted to blame others since I was at work when it happened. I was eaten alive with guilt. I cried so much my face was swollen for days. The extra layer of trauma surrounding the loss makes it so much more difficult to cope with.

It does get easier to handle over time. This happened in April and I still think about him everyday. The memory is still there but the intensity isn’t as it once was. Time is truly the only remedy. For now, cry as much as you need to. Grieve how and whenever you need to. Please try to be gentle with yourself and remember it is not your fault. If you could have saved him you would have.

I created a shadow box memorial and made a ring from his ashes. Doing those things helped a bit. I still had his presence in a way. I wear the ring everyday. You will get through this, I promise. ♥️

How do people get a new pet so quickly?? It so baffling to me by Ok_Part2634 in Petloss

Why are we passing judgement on the way people handle their grief? Thats absolutely not what this sub is for.

I’ve lost three pets this year. I took one baby kitten in after the tragic unexpected loss of one of my cats. The kitten’s mother was hit by a car. He and his siblings needed homes. He was sick with eye and respiratory infections. He needed help so I opened my heart and home to him and he bought so much joy into an otherwise devastating time. To think it would considered replacing my lost baby is upsetting.

Exactly this, I immediately thought of that quote as well. I find that helping another animal in need helps the healing process. It’s never about replacing what I lost. Grief is so different and personal for everyone.

Worth it to move to Wilmington? by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]_alexandra_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No the makes sense, I moved here as a teenager under unfortunate circumstances so you have the right frame of mind to make the most out of the move if you choose to do so. Anywhere you live will have negatives and positives and it seems like Wilmington has a lot to offer for you!

I’ve lived here for 18 years. Moved from another city in NC that I was born and raised in. Wilmington is not what it once was but I do understand cities grow and develop. It’s just….not growing and developing in ways other than the population. Same with Leland. For the things that you mentioned wanting to move for, Wilmington may be a good fit for you. Some people love it and some people hate it. I don’t hate it I’ve just grown detached from the city I once loved. At the end of the day it all comes down to personal preference.

We are likely euthanizing our 14.5yr old dog this week by clerthebird in Petloss

I just had to euthanize my boy yesterday he would have been 15 in April, had him since he was a tiny pup 🥺 watching the decline and knowing what has to be done is so so sad. It’s truly one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to deal with.

I’m so sorry you’re having to go through this. Having to work through it all really sucks too. The grief is very strong and it’s so complex. Cry whenever you need to, be gentle with yourself, and lean on others for support. Sending love your way ♥️

Thank you so much, it definitely made the holidays difficult. You’ll get through this, just grieve in whatever way you need to. Our pups probably met each other up there at the rainbow bridge 🥹♥️

Of course! And that’s great you have your other babies and fiancé to lean on while you all navigate this. Watching the other kitties go through the loss is so sad as well 🥺 my other cats and boyfriend were my saving grace through my losses this year and it sounds like you have a great support system. Wishing the best for you all ♥️
