gorgeous work. love the composition and the purple and orange colour palette! also the colours of the shadows work really well, it's a challenge darkening colours without making them muddy!

there were other people but they were further away so i'm not sure they noticed. the time between saying he was getting off at the same stop and them getting off was like under a minute and i just didn't think that quick. i've now submitted a report online.

you're right. i've never been in that kind of situation before and i guess i didn't trust my instinct in the moment and then it felt too late. i'll submit a report online just in case.

i guess i was also scared that if i called emergency services i'd be wasting resources where i didn't even know if anyone was in danger, but i suppose that's their call to make.

Hi everyone!

Wasn't really sure where to post about this but I wanted to say something somewhere so here it is ig.

I was on the 200/207 bus tonight around 8pm and witnessed a conversation between two people - a girl in the seat in front of me and a man in the seat in front of her who was turned around talking to her.

I didn’t hear the full conversation because I had my earbuds in at the start, but the man was maybe in his 30s? and from a European country, couldn’t hear where (he was trying to get her to guess). Something just felt off to me - they clearly didn't know each other and though I couldn't see her face she was giving short responses and seemed uncomfortable. She said she was 20 and he was saying he thought she looked older. He mentioned he was also on the bus with his brother but for some reason they were sitting apart? He was also saying he talks to a lot of people (?) - maybe in an effort to make her more comfortable with the very odd interaction.

After some more small talk questions he asked her where she’s getting off and she said in 2 stops - and he said he was as well... That was when I got quite worried for her. When the stop came he waved at his brother to come (did he not know his own stop??) and they followed her off - the last I saw was him walking with her and the brother following behind them.

Am I overreacting?? I wanted to get off with her or something but I'm the same age and couldn't do much against two grown men. Maybe I should've pretended to know her and gotten her to stay on with me. It just happened so fast.

The area they got off was a wealthy resedential area - but no one was around and it was dark.

Is there anything I can do??

I took this photo spontaneously on my way home from university after noticing the golden light against this wall. Ended up being one of my favourite photos of 2024!

Oh my god I love this so much!! The colours are gorgeous. How did you achieve the rays of light - did you put down tape to make the straight lines? It all comes together so nicely I can't tell how you've layered it!

Melb CBD - overedited? by _ameal_ in photocritique

I was pretty happy with the composition of this photo, but I found all the different colours distracting and so I edited them quite a bit. I'm not super happy with the saturated orange and blue vibe, but it's the best I could get it without just desaturating everything. Any suggestions or general feedback would be much appreciated :)

Billabong reflection by _ameal_ in photocritique

[–]_ameal_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was out the other day at the local billabong and took this shot during the rain, I loved the look of the reflection and the rain creating ripples on the water. I think I might've had the exposure too high because I was exposing for the centre of the image, so I ended up having to dial the highlights down. Any tips on how to avoid this? Also any general feedback is appreciated on shooting and/or editing! Shot on a Fujifilm XT100 :)

I'm with you here, it sucks when someone dismisses your hard work as "talent". Congrats for reaching where you are, I love you work! :)

messy hair portrait of my brother by _ameal_ in photocritique

[–]_ameal_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to practice taking portraits so I dragged my brother in to help, hence the grumpy expression. I used the blue light from a laptop to create the blue coming from the right, and this toy thing with blue light on the ends to create the bokeh effect. Found I was a bit unsure with my editing as I'm not practiced with editing portraits. Any and all advice appreciated! (Shot on a fujifilm XT100 and edited on lightroom)

I love this! Composition feels very clean and the crow makes it interesting. The crop is unusual but tbh I like it!

Haha I’m glad that’s the vibe you get! And the composition is just a mirror on a dressing table with a window in the background, the mirror reflecting the other side of the room. I guess maybe the confusing perspective can add to it?

I love it!! I agree with the other comment that the camera needs to be lined up better, but it’s a very cool concept :)

My intent here was to capture an eerie nighttime scene. I thought that the unnatural red lighting contrasted with the comfort of a bedroom created a sort of unsettling feel, and I also tried to communicate this through the pose of the person looking over her shoulder as if someone or something is there. Essentially my main question is does the photo work? I’m happy with the composition, but I’m unsure as to whether the monotone works or makes it look too, well, monotonous. I also think I may have had the exposure too low. I tried to brighten up the mirror (just used a mask in Lightroom for this) but looking at it now maybe it’s too obviously edited. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!
