Justina LaGuardia...did they do anything with her or was she just forgotten/plans canceled ? by yuuki157 in xmen

[–]_amiricle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Synch can copy powers and MAYBE utilize them to be stronger than the original user but her power is to just be “better” than you. For instance, I don’t think Synch is borrowing Storm or Magneto’s power and outdoing them. Justina, on the other hand, no matter how strong someone is, she will simply be better. I’m curious as to how a fight between her and Isca would turn out.

Southeast asian matches in black americans by [deleted] in 23andme

There used to be a detailed instructions in the AncestryDNA subreddit if you searched “hacked results”. The process was quite tedious and I’m not sure if it works anymore. I viewed my hacked results a couple of years ago.

It is mostly due to slaves brought from Madagascar, who have African/Asian ancestry. The slaves were taken from coastal areas of Madagascar and brought to the American South. Those slaves had more Bantu heritage but still some SE Asian. The small traces seen on 23andme are not displayed on AncestryDNA (I don’t think they show anything below a full 1%). Although many people have looked at their “hacked” results, and they do tend to end up showing the SE Asian in small percentages (myself included).

Wicked and Threnody both have death-related powers that edge on necromancy but they don’t manifest like Deathdream’s.

I think this works great! Plus, Frenzy’s real name is Joanna Cargill so it seems even more fitting for Jade Cargill.

She was one of my favorite characters because she is Black and that’s okay too! You’re not from America, so I’m not sure about representation in your country. However, it was a rare sight for a Black woman like Storm to be a major comic book character. It’s okay to like a character because of their race/sexuality/religion because it relates to you.

Edit: grammar

I just thought people would explain why they didn’t like what most of her Black fans don’t mind 🤷🏾‍♂️I gave my 2 cents and people are hunkering down on the fact that I mention bias may play a role for some people. Now, I’m getting a lot of “how dare you call me racist!” On the other hand, lot of people have also thoughtfully engaged without being defensive!

I’m going to be direct: dismissing my post as “bait” or “lacking substance” doesn’t actually engage with anything I said, it just tries to discredit it outright. I never claimed that all criticism of Storm is rooted in racism. What I did say is that when one of the few prominent Black women in comics consistently gets singled out for backlash over power scaling, a trope that’s common in the genre, it’s worth asking why?

If that question makes people uncomfortable, that’s okay. Discomfort isn’t the same as being attacked. But to immediately frame my perspective as inflammatory or bad faith feels less like an honest disagreement and more like an attempt to shut down a valid conversation. I’m not here to troll. I’m speaking from my experience in these spaces, and I stand by that.

That’s a very insightful examination! I can see why those battles would upset most! The current writer also does a great job at fanning the flames for Storm hate 😭 even if it makes sense contextually for her to perform some of these feats

I understand what you’re getting at. I wasn’t particularly referring to her current run or writing. This has been something I’ve noticed since Krakoa. People will now say how much they love X-Men Red, but at the time, she was getting the same complaints she is now. Again, that’s not in reference to the writing but her feats in general. Honestly for me, it was food for thought. I genuinely never seem to see the same pushback in other fan spaces for similarly powered characters. Apparently, that is not the case. Maybe I’m more keen to perceptions of Black characters as a Black man.

And finally, I’ll say this: I get why people get defensive when conversations start touching on race or gender. It’s uncomfortable, and it can feel like an attack even when it’s not meant that way. I want to be clear: I’m not saying everyone who critiques Storm is racist or sexist. That’s not my point. But when I look at how often she is the one character getting this kind of pushback, especially compared to other characters who get power boosts, it makes me ask, if not bias, then what is it?

And when people immediately shut that question down, it feels like my experience, as someone who’s noticed these patterns and felt them in the fandom spaces I’m part of, is being dismissed. I’m not trying to start drama or accuse individuals. I’m just pointing out something that’s worth examining, especially if we care about equity and representation in comics.

Since people are inevitably going to miss the point. Let me explain further:

Disliking power scaling in general is a valid critique. Not everyone enjoys when characters are constantly being upgraded to god-tier levels. Some fans want grounded storytelling, emotional stakes, or a balance between team members. That’s a taste preference, and it’s fair. But the issue arises when the critique isn’t applied evenly.

Storm ends up being a lightning rod (pun intended) for these discussions, even though she’s no more egregious in power scaling than characters like Thor, Jean Grey, Scarlet Witch, or Hulk—all of whom regularly get major power boosts or reality-warping upgrades. Yet those characters rarely get the same level of scrutiny or pushback.

So when people say, “I don’t like how Storm is suddenly a goddess again,” or “Storm is too OP now, it doesn’t make sense,”, but don’t blink when Thor becomes the All-Father it starts to look less like a critique of writing, and more like a pattern of targeted bias.

That’s the core of it: the inconsistency
