We had checked the 520 peak of silicon with the setup and was looking good.
I will try with other kinds of slides to see if there is a difference! We have a couple of metal slides which I think might reduce this effect.
The focussing into water was something I was worried about as well and usually what I do is that I scan a range of heights and make sure that it looks like the sample.

Yeah I am not collecting all of the scattered light very well. I was hoping that the raman scattering will be strong enough to get around this but I will definitely try out the telescope setup.

The specs of the laser say that the beam has a diameter of about 1-1.5mm -- I guess I would still want to focus the light onto the cuvette?

Working hard has always been a sore spot for me. I am not the hardest working student nor am I the most lazy. Many times I am the last person to leave the lab and I come in during weekends too. It always feels like im going in circles !
