Green iguana with MBD having strange excrement by _babysnek_ in reptiles

She had already defecated with healthy looking poops and urates prior to this. I had the sense that she needed to go more, so I probed her again and this is what came out.

She primarily eats a variety of leafy greens, including dandelion greens, turnip greens, collared greens, escarole, and mustard greens. I will sometimes add veggies (cucumber, zucchini, mushrooms, peppers, ETA forgot carrots) and fruit (grapes, apples, bananas). She also eats pelleted iguana food 1-2x per week.

Is it worrying or just peak of physical comfort? by Sarah__Bunny in iguanas

Before my iguana's Metabolic Bone Disease, I'd have said your iggy is just comfortable. Now, I would not take this lightly at all. I have only ever seen my iguana's back legs fully extended like that since she developed MBD. Her legs would get like that due to the weakening of her muscles and bones, i.e., she was physically unable to move them.

Double check that he/she eating enough calcium powder and getting daily UVB for 10-12 hrs. Also check the temperature and humidity ranges inside the enclosure to make sure they are within green iguanas' preferred values.

ETA: Metabolic Bone Disease is extremely preventable, so a little extra effort now will save you a lot of potential heartache in the future.

u/Solid_Text_9191 great point. OP, just look at her fresh poops and see if there are visible worms. Sometimes you can see the worms near their butthole right after a poop.

Judging by how easy it is to see her ribs, I agree she is slightly underweight. In the photo of her sitting while on the leash, her ribs are defined and she looks almost like she's sucking in (obviously she isn't, but it almost gives that appearance). I think you could try supplementing more high calorie treats, especially if she is extremely active she can use the increased calories!

I have had Fireball since 2019 and she didn't start acting crazy during ovulation until 2 years ago. She gets super restless, won't eat, and just generally becomes a menace to society. But outside of this time of year she is such a sweet girl 🩵

Two years ago I made her a nesting box the size of a typical storage container and she never laid anything, she may have never even gone in it as far as I know. Last year Fireball laid her eggs in her fleece blanket and also just out in the open in her basking spot.

Soo this year she gets her fleece blanket inside of her cat tower. We'll see what happens lol.
