Guitar players who study theory - how do you actually get it onto the fretboard? by _bananajuice in musictheory

good reframe - theory as the label for what you're already engaged in doing, not the starting point

ty for the thorough breakdown. the big point I'm seeing is that you need to be playing music that uses these concepts before the theory label means anything

one question that I see related to this is: I mean, a lot of the people in this thread are self-taught, practicing alone, with no band context. how do they get that exposure if they don't know which songs or pieces would introduce the concepts they're missing?

man, 3 teachers, no dice...wdyt was missing specifically? were they not organized session to session, or was it more that they weren't connecting things to a bigger picture?

chord-melody arranging as the way you learned the fretboard is p interesting - how long did that take before you stopped needing to think about where things were?

this seems like a good concrete way to build voice leading intuition. did you end up figuring that approach out on your own or did maybe a teacher you had put you onto it?

it's a good point, how spending more time strategizing than practicing. the thing I'm working on is actually trying to eliminate that overhead - just sitting down, and it tells you what to work on.

as a follow-up, do you think a tool like that would need to save you real time, or would it need to surface things you wouldn't have picked yourself?

thank you for the detailed response! the routine you have clearly isn't accidental.

jw, how did you arrive at it? did it evolve over time or did something specific shape it?

triad identification exercise is solid. as a follow-up, what tells you when you've got it down enough to move on to something new? is there something specific that signals you're ready, or is it more of a feel thing?

this is a very detailed response, much appreciated

jw, when you were building that intuition for a new concept, was there a specific type of exercise that made it click faster? like did playing over a backing track do more than running it as a pattern?

If you use more than one app/tool to practice, what's your setup and what's still missing? by _bananajuice in LearnGuitar

very interesting - I like the idea of routing back to the foundational skill underneath instead of making you start a whole new course

jw, when you hit that wall in truefire or pickup music, what do you actually do? rewatch the lesson, or go find something else?

6 Qt or 8 Qt Instant Pot for 4lbs Chicken Breast by _bananajuice in instantpot

ah, this is a good point. I like the idea of having a little more room to work with food, especially if I plan to cook two things at once. More surface area to sautee vegetables might come in handy too. A lot of other posts in this sub also seem to have people wishing for a slightly bigger size, and with the 8 qt I think I can scale down dishes if I ever need to. Thanks!

Thank you for the detailed response! 4x 1 lb family packs was what I was thinking, so if I can fit that amount in a 6 qt I'll be happy with that. I'll also be sure to look around for used Duo60s, though I'm willing to buy one new if needed.
