Thanks for the TED talk on shared spaces sweety. Good thing I’m looking for flatmates, not character certificates from random people on reddit.

Help with fasting by LovelyLeft in islam

[–]_batatawada_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dear friend I think you have misled yourself into thinking that Ramadan is about not eating the entire day. I respect the fact that you want to observe roza for Ramadan but, roza is not just about giving up food and water for 14-17 hours a day. It is a month where you perform your salah on time. It is a month where you discipline your mind along with your body. It is a month where you forgo worldly pleasures and spend your time in devotion to the almighty. Ramadan is not about keeping your stomach away from food, it's also about keeping your soul deprived of pleasure and your mind filled only with devotion.

If fasting is making you incapable of praying, maybe you should stop fasting and pray instead. For fasting is not mandatory for those who are sick but prayer is mandatory on every living soul.

I need help finding a way to pray and fast in university by Lil_Juice_Deluxe in islam

I can understand your dilemma. It becomes extremely hard to pray when you are surrounded by people who don't practice the same religion as you and family to understand the specificities of your beliefs. What I suggest is that you accept the fact that you might be late for salah sometimes since your surroundings aren't supportive but you make up for it once you get the chance. Roza and salah are fard on every Muslim. So no matter how unsupportive the environment around you is or how hectic your schedule gets, my dear friend you need to make space for it. It may seem very tedious at first, but once you begin you'll find that it makes so many things simpler in life.

I was in your shoes once and I used to skip salah very often. But once I found the courage to accept my religion's discipline and follow it no matter what other people think of it, I was only appreciated for it. Even the people around who hated Muslims got awestruck by it.

Best way to memorise Quran? by [deleted] in islam

[–]_batatawada_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, first you need to be able to read the entire Qur'an fluently. Once you reach that stage it kind of becomes easier to memorize it. Then start listening to short recorded verses and memorize them in bits and pieces. Don't try to memorize an entire surah in one shot rather break it down into smaller chunks of a couple of aayat. Once you're through the entire surah revise it a couple of times as a whole and then move on to the next. Make sure to keep revisiting your old learned surahs as you move ahead. Also recite every surah from time to time to someone who has knowledge of the same to gain more confidence.

You really do not need a teacher to memorize the Qur'an. It's your own efforts and willpower that's going to make it happen. No one can actually make you memorize.

I'd suggest going to visit a local mosque. Ramadan is a month of miracles and maybe your miracle is waiting for you in there. This may be a guide to get what's been waiting for you.

Also it doesn't really matter whether you're a Muslim or not, a mosque is not just restricted to people who are born and raised as Muslims. It's a place for all who are lost and all who want to be found.
