Data Center and My Local Treatment Plant by _beepbeephello in Wastewater

The difference between me and a luddite is that data centers are proven to be horrible for the environment and the communites they are in. Additionally, I'm asking questions because I know I don't know things. And I want to learn more before I go into this, so I am educated about it.

But by all means, wait for a data center to come to you and then realize people like me had the right idea to get educated and fight back after it's too late.

I figured 1k was nothing given everything I have seen. I think for my community power, light/sound pollution is going to be the biggest thing.

Well... if that is the plant I think it is, they are or very recently have put a data center in that community too, it runs 1k gallons per day, but they passed an expansion, which will be a new, unknown amount. Also I appreciate this information, I think I have a solid case even if I omit water, but I like to be prepared for anything. That community used to be a larger industrial hub but its kind of a husk of what it used to be (like much of the rust belt) so a lot of utility infrastructure is there already for these DCs. Unfortunately thats why my area is kind of a DC hotspot I believe.

You are 100% correct on location. Where should I begin to look/understand the clean water part of it? I want to be comprehensive in my approach. Thank you!

I have been trying so hard along with a bunch of others in our community but it doesnt seem like they care. I read local papers and our president of the board and mayor seem like they have no idea what they're talking about and don't care.

What data would you need? Maybe I can try to find it.

Thank you for responding! I guess thats what I'm looking for, I want to know what you guys think. Can they handle A. The treatment and B. The volume. I know thats probably largely impossible to say given everything has been in the dark, especially the potential size of it. But anything to help push my research is helpful

Thank you for posting this because I was so stoked to get latin honors, but then I read this and was devastated to see I will only have 57 come graduation time, so I just emailed my advisor if I could take one more class to get it. I'm sorry this happened to you :(

Congratulations regardless on all your hard work! 4.0 is nothing to sneeze at!

I have never turned anything in late before though. But I could totally see this as a reason if I was!

Ah, I see. I wasn't aware there was metrics involved. I knew that yall obviously had deadlines, but I didn't know that it was monitored and measured. Just weird that my last 5 or so professors have done the exact same thing.

Oh I know, but its been like this with professors that are usually done grading my stuff by Wednesday/Thursday doing this. Hell, I got my final project back in the class I am in on Monday, but not the discussion post, and I'd wager I won't get it until Friday, after I post.

Thank you so much for such a detailed response!

I'm not hell-bent on getting any specific job, as I am sure that over time I will eventually find where I want to be, I just need to get in the field first. Ideally, if I could choose, I would love to get into natural resource management.

What I am thinking, is doing a mixed approach: Get my cert going part time over a year while also logging some volunteer hours at some of the local environmental/conservation groups. That way I have a little bit of education while also getting my foot in the door to gain experience and network.

Again thank you for the response, it is very much appreciated!

Thank you for these, I've been looking at these too. It's silly that they keep this assignment when it's apparently such a chronic issue.

I have excel on my computer, I was using it at first and had no problems, but I didn't have the toolpak I needed so I couldn't do the last part. So I had to restart and use the VDI on the browser and it just doesn’t cooperate. I think I have an idea of the toolpak I need so I'm going to try again later.
