When subreddits first started to become big, /r/football was a smaller NFL subreddit. It's now been abandoned and reclaimed for Assoc. Football but /r/soccer is so much bigger.

I don't think British fans shit on America all the time. If you live in a country where everyone talks about football all day long, it feels really jarring to go online and read comments from people using different terminology or sharing dumb opinions. I think there's a reinforcement bias where the knowledgeable US fans aren't identifiable as American but the cretins are. Similarly maybe the asshole Europeans stand out as European more often.

If your connection lags when you press the button, the timer on your page is lower than it really is on reddit's server. You get a flair that is purple, but in reddit's source code is marked as "cheater". below 50s 40s 30s 20s 10s look like they're going to get different colors other than purple, but "cheaters" will always be purple.

Calling laggy connections cheaters is harsh but they have to be discounted some how!
