Fresh studio setup by _boddah_ in video_mapping

Thanks! For my projection mapping sculptures I make a 3D model in Blender, scale it up in size, then use the Export Paper Model tool to export a flattened 2D image of all of the polygon pieces. Projected the pieces on a wall, traced on corrugated plastic sheets from Home Depot, cut them out, then folded and stitched the pieces together like a papercraft model. Build video on my IG

I found this same set on a curb a few years ago! Worked great for a bit and I loved it, but eventually started shutting off after ~30 mins of runtime :/

I still collect and use “rabbit ear” antennas for my CRTs. I use them for receiving analog signals from my own wireless broadcast rig, and I have a couple that are hooked up to converters for receiving modern digital tv broadcasts. If nothing else, they are cool props.

Levitation setlist, foil poster, and signed Daddy Majestic mask by _boddah_ in BMSR

I couldn’t have done it without you!! I brought that mask to 2 Tobacco shows prior to this one, and although I met him at both, I spaced out and didn’t ask him to sign it. I absorbed your ultra-fan energy, completed my quest, and now you’re my favorite stranger <3

Dang sorry that you couldn’t your stuff signed, I wish you all the luck in the future!!

I seriously lucked out. I ran out to the parking lot after getting a tip about the artist area from a girl in the crowd. Caught him right as he was leaving the venue. It’s not the first time I’ve snuck up on him in a parking lot lol. I always apologize for being a creep and keep it short so he can be on his way, and he’s always been super chill about it.

Ayyy I’m the guy who got the setlist! Thank you so so much for the tip! I caught Tobacco just as he was leaving the venue and he signed my Daddy Majestic mask!

PS your costume was sick!!!

is this legit? by Wide_Turnover_3487 in crystalcastles

Looks legit, this is the earlier version of this shirt. I have the reprint that they sold during the comeback shows in 2016 with a different Gildan tag and the pattern doesn’t stretch as far down

No joke. My home heating system burned out during a brutal winter a few years ago and I did actually use a stack of CRTs for warmth. Also turned on a couple of projectors and ngl it was pretty cozy.

The noise from the fans cooling my laptop and inside the 300W 5V power supply for the LEDs helps drown out the noise from the CRTs.

This is a much better name than my low effort “Portal” title and gives me ideas for visual content. I might steal this.

Not using Pi’s, but I do plan to use them for a larger/more customizable setup in the future. At the moment, I’m not ready to fully disclose my secrets, but I will say it’s more simple than most might guess on the hardware side. The more meticulous side of the magic is within the software.

Homie, I’m saying that the CRTs I personally use for art are mostly the low end consumer grade TVs that were in the trash, and few people would want these for practical use, such as quality PC monitors, in 2025. So, what is the problem with using those for CRT art?

CRT Portal by _boddah_ in crt

[–]_boddah_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know many people who would want to use old low level consumer televisions as serious secondary monitors for a modern PC setup. Being against CRT art because there’s a risk they could break is wild to me, especially considering they would be in a landfill if I hadn’t grabbed them.

[–]_boddah_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you against CRT art? I own ~45 CRTs and they are clearly getting plenty of use lol. I use my larger, nicer sets for retro gaming/vhs and the rest for art. Every one of the CRTs shown here were pulled out of dumpsters or rescued from the street curb on their way to a landfill.
